Mobile Hotspot on Droid RAZR requires ADDITIONAL data plan?

I recently changed from a DroidX to a Droid RAZR with no change in my plan whatsoever. I've had the Unlimited Data plan on my account for as long as I can remember.
I just tried to use the Mobile Hotspot and the "provisioning service" tells me I need to buy ANOTHER DATA PLAN for an ADDITIONAL $30 a month?
If I have to pay for ADDITIONAL DATA PLANS when I'm grandfathered on the Unlimited Plan, Verizon just might lose about 200 customers that will come with me when I cancel.
Please tell me why the Mobile Hotspot function worked perfectly a month ago on my DroidX but my Droid RAZR doesn't work with the SAME DATA PLAN.

You can "tether" the Razr for free via the USB cable. You cannot use the Hot Spot feature for free with stock ICS.

I do not believe they can tether either without paying for a 2GB tethering/hotspot plan

That is true! If you have unlimited data you can tether, but not hot spot and if you have the tiered plans it's the opposite, you can hot spot but not tether, I think.

We will have t agree to disagree. Jim has the tethering/hotspot option spelled out correctly

I have unlimited data and when I connect using tether there are no issues (I used this extensively during the Olympics) but I cannot hot spot without paying extra. That's been my experience. So now I'm confused.

If you have the grandfathered unlimited data plan, you can purchase the hotspot/tether feature. At one time, you could purchase unlimited hotspot/tethering for an additional $30 per month. I don't think that feature is available any longer but you can still purchase the 2GB hotspot/tethering plan for $20 per month, I believe. If you are on a metered data plan (less than unlimited), you can now use the hotspot/tethering feature for free. You have to download an app for this from the market. If you purchase a new Share Everything plan, you get free hotspot/tethering with your data plan.

We're talking about doing it legally and not stealing hotspot/tethering from Verizon.

Having an unlimited data plan makes what you are doing illegal. Only tiered plans did the FCC allow to have free hotspot and tethering

I do not have the unlimited data plan, but Verizon still wants to charge me for hotspot/tethering. According to what you say and as the FCC has determined, what Verizon is doing is illegal.

If you have a metered plan, you can download an app and tether or use hotspot for free, legally. The ruling said Verizon must allow this. It did not say Verizon must give it to you for free using the Verizon feature.

when you say "changed" do you mean you upgraded? because that's going to open up a whole new can of worms that you don't want to know about. i'm hoping you mean you just activated a phone you had or bought from ebay or somewhere.

The Droid X and the Droid RAZR both require an additional data plan to use the Mobile Hotspot service with Verizon Wireless. They are different bundles due to one device being 3G and the other being 4G. If you'd like to review the service you may have had with the Droid X, please follow me (mariac_vzw) and send me a direct message. When the change was done to the Droid RAZR, the Mobile Hotspot plan from the Droid X would have been cancelled automatically. The Droid RAZR requires the $30.00 Unlimited Mobile Hotspot service with the Unlimited phone Data plan. You can check out Share Everything on www.verizonwireless.com/shareeverything as these plans include Mobile Hotspot with your bundle.
