New software - Jelly Bean / 4.2 upgrade for RAZR MAXX (XT912)...

Does anyone know (or have an insider Smiley Happy who knows) when they'll release 4.2/Jelly Bean for the RAZR MAXX?  Now that they've announced it for the MAXX HD, seems like it should would be very soon...

I'm thinking about going to the dark side (switch to  iPhone 5), but have heard good things about Jelly Bean  and would like to give it a try before making the decision.

I am kind of anxious for this, too, as I have been holding off upgrading until it has been released for either the Maxx HD or GSIII. I have tried the new Google Now on other Jelly Bean phones and have been quite impressed with it and will probably not get an upgrade until the phone I want has it installed already.

I refuse to be one of those people who purchase a phone on the promise of what a phone MIGHT get in the future and then complain about how Verizon PROMISED me something when in fact THEY DID NOT!

The only thing I have heard on an available date is sometime before 2013 ....I assume Motorola is still "testing" the new update before releasing it to Verizon, OR Verizon is just making us wait for it. As for the iPhone...I know several people who own them, and as with any phone there are mixed reviews, some wouldn't have anything but the iPhone, and others hate it for various reasons. Myself I've always like Motorola's phones, but the new GS3 has been getting some really good reviews, and people I know who have it absolutely love it. I keep checking my Razr Maxx for the new system update and am disappointed to see it says "Your phone is up tp date".....well 30 days to go before 2013 arrives, so hopefully we will see it very soon.

Honestly, the difference between Android 4.1x/4.2 (jellybean) and 4.1 (ice cream sandwich) is nominal.  There are almost no visible differences, and folks make such a big deal about how long the updates take, its somewhat bizarre.  The existing software works fine for most people.  I have jellybean 4.12 on my Xoom, and there are minute operational differences, but nothing anyone would ever really notice in day to day operations.

Its weird, people get crazy more and more that they're not getting some android update.  Its the manufacturer thats the issue, not Google or Verizon.  But having lived through numerous android updates in the past 3 years, I have a hard time telling the difference in most cases, other than the dopey lock screen that eliminated the "Slider" cuz the apple jerks sued and won over something that had almost no relevance on the planet

No one should expect earth shattering differences in any android update, as they will likely not be any for a while, if ever.  There are too many dependencies in all the different hardware components required to make these "smartphones" fully functional.

What about Google Now?  Offline maps?  Improved battery performance?

Can we really get "improved battery performance" on a Razr Maxx?

I also read that there would be an improvement to the camera... I bought the RMHD knowing that the camera wasn't a great one, but I was at least hoping for better than my MOTO Photon from Sprint and unfortunately it's worse than that one.. I'll take extreme battery-life any day over a camera, but it sure would be nice to have camera optics that was on par with the quality of the device.

What are you talking about? Of course its Verizon, as a Galaxy Nexus user your post makes no sense. Google released 4.2 for Galaxy Nexus months ago!!

Announced for the Razr MAXX (versus the Razr MAXX HD - which I've seen)?  I keep checking daily - nothing so far...hopefully soon.

Thanks!

The only update announced recently was for the HD series of the DROID Razr HD and DROID Razr Maxx HD. I believe the Jelly Bean update for the earlier versions (DROID Razr and DROID Razr Maxx) are still a work in progress and planned for later (early 2013?).

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I agree with Ann, the upgrade was announced for the HD series, not 1 phone specifically. See HERE and HERE.

Motorola DROID RAZR HD, RAZR MAXX HD Jelly Bean update now rolling out

Verizon Motorola DROID RAZR HDVerizon recently announced that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update would begin rolling out to Motorola DROID RAZR HD and DROID RAZR MAXX HD this week, but at that time, the big red carrier neglected to mention exactly when the new software would begin pushing. It looks like owners of those two handsets didn't have to wait long to start getting a taste of Jelly Bean, as Motorola has confirmed on its official blog that the update is now rolling out to both devices. The update will be rolling out in phases, so don't fret if it hasn't made its way to your neck of the woods quite yet. Moto also says that a manual update will be made available soon.As we noted last week when Verizon first made this update official, DROID RAZR HD and DROID RAZR MAXX HD users can expect this 276MB update to bump them up to software version 9.1.41.XT926.Verizon.en.US. Included are Jelly Bean goodies like Google Now and an improved keyboard along with improvements to voice and data connectivity. The full changelog as posted by Verizon last week is available below. Any owners that'd like to check for their Jelly Bean update can head into Settings > About phone > System updates, and if nothing comes up, you'll have to just keep an eye on your notifications area for that little update alert. Be sure to let us know once you finally move up to Jelly Bean! VOICE SEARCH

  • Sometimes you’d rather just speak your search query. Android lets you search the web with your voice, and it’s convenient for getting quick answers on the fly. It speaks back to you and is powered by the Knowledge Graph, bringing you precise answers and ranked search results.

NOTIFICATIONS

  • Take action directly from the notifications panel. Send emails, return calls, share photos and more. Notifications are expandable and you scan multiple emails, see event details or full images and more.

SMART KEYBOARD

  • More accurate and relevant dictionaries have been implemented. Jelly Bean’s keyboard guesses the next word before you type it and voice typing now works even when you don’t have a data connection, and text-to-Speech capabilities have been improved.

GOOGLE NOW

  • Just the right information at just the right time. Get today’s weather before you start your day, know how much traffic to expect before you leave for work and when the next train will arrive as you’re standing on the platform. Cards appear throughout the day automatically.

ADDITIONAL JELLY BEAN ENHANCEMENTS

  • Move between Home screens with more intuitive graphics and smooth transitions.
  • Enjoy more reactive and uniform touch responses.

SOFTWARE UPGRADES

  • Improved voice and data connectivity.
  • Native calendar settings have been improved for a better user experience.
  • Improved reliability and connectivity of Back Up Assistant Plus & Visual Voicemail.
  • Time stamp shown in outgoing multimedia has been corrected.

APPLICATION UPDATES

  • Video calling portal and Accessories Application has been preloaded.
  • Verizon Video has been removed.
  • Color Application has been removed.
  • Fully integrated Amazon app suite has been preloaded (includes Kindle, Amazon MP3, IMDb, Audible, and Zappos).
