Over 48 Hours Trying to Download ICS

I think ICS is downloading, but I'm not sure. There's no progression bar, no little downloading icon in the toolbar, nothing. The only indication is the "An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete." message I get when I click into "System Updates." It has been like this since the afternoon of July 4th. I'm guessing something is going on because my phone is extremely hot and my battery life drains so fast. How long do I have to wait? This is crazy.
I called customer support and got less than useful assistance. The lady I spoke with suggested everything I have already done -- (1) power off and back on (2) soft boot (3) hard boot (4) safe zone mode (5) take out my SIM card, boot, shut down, replace SIM card, reboot -- but it's all the same results. The only thing I can see as some indication the downloading MIGHT be happening is the "An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete." message I get when I click into "System Updates." She said "this has been happening all day long." In the end, customer support said to me, "Give it another 24 hours. If you're still unable to get the download, we'll have to figure out another way to get it to you."
Really? Figure out another way to get the download to me? If there's a new problem with pushing the update out, just tell me. I know the next thing they will suggest is a factory reset and then see if the download will go through.
So, I'm posting to see if anyone else has experienced this problem and if so, how they fixed it. I'm about to give up on ICS for now until the dust clears. But I can't even stop whatever my phone is trying to do now. Like I mentioned, my phone is very hot now and battery draining fast since trying to get the update.
I can't even USE my phone it's that hot from whatever the "An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete." is doing. I turned off my data connection (went into airplane mode) and it was amazing how fast the temperature for my phone dropped to cool. But what's the point of having a phone without data or internet connection??
