Playing music in my car with Droid Razr...my problem

I used to play music from my droid in my truck via a microUSB to USB cable. I have a aftermarket high end stereo in my ride and this was the best option since a USB connection is digital and it charges the phone while plugged in, so no messy cables. After a over the air android update to the "Ice Cream Sandwich" version I can no longer do this as my steareo just spits an error message at me saying "No Support". When I inquired about this at my local Verizon retailer they kept pushing a car dock accessory package at me that would connect it to my radio thru the auxilary port. the drawback is however that I would now have to have a car charger cable to keep my droid from dying while in use. It all sounded like a marketing ploy to move accessories to me and quite frankly im more then a bit annoyed about it. I despise Apple products in all forms and refuse to drop additional cash on an Ipod. Is there a way to undo the Ice Cream Sandwich update or does anyone know of a setting that will allow music play thru the USB cable like it did before? I tried all the USB function settings, Mass Storage, Media etc... all say No Support on my trucks head unit now.

Does your High End Stereo have a Small impute Jack if it Does you can get The Motorola Nav Car Kit that Includes a Audio Cord with a Right angle Male and a Straight Male and as i said if your Stereo has this Mini Impute jack you can Run Audio From your Razr that Way. And the Best way the Charge the phone is with O.E.M Motorola Car Charger as they are Designed for that Purpose..

B33, The OP wanted to get music without buying all that equipment, like he did with the phone on GB. Using a Micro to USB cable, it played music plus charged the phone, all at the same time in the same cable.

N.D.U i was just giving him another Option. I've used this option in our Truck and it works great & sounds great & it didn't cost Much for the Nav. Kit.

There is a way to do this butit cannot be discussed on the VZW forums - and it will void your warranty. I'd check with the manufacturer of the head unit and see if there is a s/w update available for it - I've done this a couple times on my F150's SYNC system. I use bluetooth though not the USB cable.

To answer the first part of the question, by keeping the phone stock, there is no way to go back to GingerBread. Once you did the upgrade, it wrote itself in the boot loader, and any time you factory reset, it will go to Ice Cream Sandwich. Now, as SmashOgre mentioned, there are other ways to do it, but they cannot be discussed here.

As far as your phone not working on your radio anymore, I am afraid I don't have access to a radio like that to test it with, so I can't tell you if it is an issue with your phone in particular or not.

So its a marketing ploy to sell their stupid car dock kit. I am not going to do anything to void the warranty on my phone but it does seem like a dirty sales tactic, the thing played music just fine until Ice Cream Sandwich entered the fray. I'm sure there are plenty of other folks too who used to use their droid like I did who are probably pissed about this.

@B33: You obviously didnt read my post, I dont want the car dock kit because it forces me to use the 3mm jack cable AND a car charger cable. Who wants to deal with the extra cable and a car dock in plain view when all i did before was plug it into a USB port concealed in the glove compartment and use my radio's controls to operate playback. Consumers in this economy dont want to purchase a bunch of extra junk that clutters up the space they inhabit when they can purchase a single device that effectively doesnt even have to be in plain view to use.

@Smash Ogre: I will be checking on this tonight. I guess I should have said mid range head unit since mine isnt blue tooth capable. Thank you for the suggestion

@NuDroidUsrr any head unit with a USB port would play music off my droid prior to the Ice Cream Sandwich Update. It reads the music off the droid like it was a flash drive. previously I just set my droid to the Mass Media Storage and the radio did the rest, it wont do it anymore.

Might be making the migration to an Iphone with another cell phone carrier after this. the service areas have been lacking since the update as well...cant get a signal at my office anymore. very sad indeed I really liked this device until now.

You might consider doing an FDR and cache-wipe before bailing out. It made a HUGE difference in how my Maxx performs. I'll connect my USB and see if it works in my vehicle...don't know that it ever did though all I do is charge through it.

That is my problem, I do not have a car radio that has a USB connection in it... I have no way of testing it exactly to your question. I would consider Smash Ogre's suggestion on doing an FDR before you just abandone it, however just be aware that it wipes everything just as if you just got the phone from Verizon with ICS on it. Make sure your contacts are backed up, and you will have to set things back up (Gmail, apps, etc)

Have you had any luck with this issue? I have not seen any new posts about this?

@Droid User:  I'm the Same Vote as our truck isn't equipped with a U.S.B. our Camry was but it Didn't work as i wanted it Too in the music Dept. it did however charge.  But using the method i described works really swell & sound great and if a person could get just the Adapter Cord you wouldn't have to mess with a Kit.  And having a Charged Battery you wouldn't have to add the Charger to the Equation as well that is Unless it's a Very long Drive.Smiley Happy

But i understand what L.B. wants and yes it's frustrating making something work again that worked once before..

I completely agree. I hate this new "ice cream sandwich" update. Not only can I NOT play my music anymore using my USB cable, but it freezes the hell out of it. I refuse to buy a kit for something that I was able to do easily for free a few months back. I hope someone finds a way to fix this.
