Programming a Droid to drop calls from unwanted phone numbers.

Ok, I've been reading a lot of the conversations complaining about people receiving calls from unwanted phone numbers. Having the DoNotCall list is a joke, because the Guvment provided a loop hole where all the caller has to say is their call is related to a charity, some political action committee or you have had business with the company in the past.

So now comes these smart phones, and I can't believe that someone hasn't figured out how to program one at least using the Contact list to have an additional entry of accepting the call or not. If not, then transfer the call to VMH or just plainly drop the call. Heck, my home phone has that ability (but somewhat limited in that only 20 phone numbers can be programmed).

Are there any Android programmers out there capable of writing such an Application?

There are several apps in the Play Store (some free) that have the ability to block/send to voicemail unwanted texts, calls, etc.

You can also create a contact the first time they call and then forward it to voice mail.  All of my outside calls come to my Google Voice number.  I can then block them there.  I don't give out my Verizon Razr Maxx number.

If your phone is an Android, then you have FREE apps that can do the job for you

"Mobile Call Blocker" (by Avanquest Mobile Technologies) for example will allow you to block unsolicited calls AND text messages and also manage blacklist and white-list profiles (easy to switch from a profile to another)

Once the correspondent is blocked then he/she will be redirected to voice mail (or if it's a text message it will just be deleted until you remove this number from blacklist)

Once again, that's free and you don't have to pay for it

you can find above app at: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avanquest.callblocker

Does that app work on blocked numbers?

I have used a number if call blickers but most don't block hidden numbers calls

If you are talking about the post above about

"Mobile Call Blocker" (by Avanquest Mobile Technologies)

The post was from a Product Manager for the company that makes the app, not a general user.

Yes that was in reply to that post but I was responding on mobile page that did not allow quotes....  I also did not realize that is was a marketing post.

Thanks for pointing that out..

I'm not saying the software is no good, but it is important to know where the info is coming from.

I wasn't saying that either but if the software does not block unknown or blocked calls it would be useless for blocking telemarketers because they have history to block their numbers.

Hi,

If you look closely to the question you'll see that it ask for an app not limited in numbers of blacklisted numbers and more over the author is asking for an answer from a developer or programmer...

I was just answering the question (no matter if I'm the author of this app or not) to help as it's from what i know the main purpose of this forum...

The app does what is described above and it's free...

Last but not least, I'm not a heavy user of Verizon network but I use it when I travel to US and have some experience in the domain.

I don't want to hide myself behind a false username to looks like a "normal" user and mask promotional message behind some "I tested this... and it works great" posts.

Once again it's free so it doesn't cost nothing to give it a try... 😉

The answer was "yes it does block the hidden numbers" (option on blacklist profile settings) 🙂

Thanks for clearifing your side.. the application looks promising.

That is correct with my post also, nothing personal. It is just with apps on these phones, people need to be aware of where the app came from, how the app works on the phone, and if people trust the app or not. You could have the best app around and if people do not like it because of a permission or how it does something, then it will not get used.

This functionality is build into the phone already.  Any number that I get calls from that I know is junk, I ignore once then add it to a contact I have that I labelled as spam.  you select the contact and press menu.  The last option is to send all calls to voicemail.  I have about 50 numbers saved to that one contact   I rarely get junk calls but when I do they get added to that contact.

I currently use Call Control registered version.

I am Currently ready to go into Bankruptcy so you know how any calls I should be getting

Call control is now blocking them. I get  a one silent ring, it picks up and hangs up on them

It does what I want it to do and it works.

I have 24 numbers curenlty in my black list.

Trial version works for a bit, it worked like i wanted so i went ahead and got the registered version

I am sure my creditors hate it

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flexaspect.android.everycallcontrol&hl=en

Lots of settings and options depending on how you want to handle the calls
