I have only had my RAZR MAXX HD for three days. I can send text messages, but the device will suddenly stop receiving them. I sent texts to family and co-workers for the past few days with no responses. Today I called my son who said that he had responded to all of my text messages. I finally did a factory reset and after restarting I received about 20 text message that were sent to me over the past few days. I was able to send and receive text messages, but after I received about 7, it suddenly stopped receiving them again. I have not downloaded any apps since the factory reset. The ones I send are going through, but I cannot receive any without doing the factory reset. Can anyone offer a solution to this problem?

What phone did you have before the RAZR MAXX HD? Possibly an iPhone?

Have you performed a System Cache wipe since the JB update? I would try it, it will not wipe your phone, you will not lose anything. If you are going to do this, make sure you follow the instructions exactly, as failure to do that could wipe the phone by accident.
Turn the phone off and perform Clear Partition. Clearing the partition will remove any temporary files that may be causing the problem, but will not delete your files or settings.
- Power the phone down.
- Hold the volume up and down and power key down all at the same time until you see the Boot Mode Selection Menu. This should happen within a couple of seconds.
- Press the volume down key until "Recovery" is highlighted. Press the volume up key to select.
- Wait until you see a triangle with an exclamation point in it.
- Press and hold the volume down key. While doing that, press and hold the volume up key then release them. This should put you into the Android system recovery.
- Press the volume down key until wipe cache partition is highlighted.
- Press the power button to select. You will be brought back to the Android system recovery utility when it is complete.
- Press the power button to select "reboot system now". Wait for the phone to boot.
Check to see if it cleared the problem.

Before you posted this information, I decided to call Tech Support. I had to wait a few but the Tech guy went into my account and reset my text messaging. So far it appears to be working fine. I will try your solution if the problem returns. Thanks.

I'm having problems receiving texts as well since the last update. sometimes they come in sometimes they hang out for a few hours but they've just stopped showing up in notification and don't make a sound. I have to look for texts and open them up to find them. I don't have to do that for gmail. It pops up and notifies me when I have mail.
Is Verizon, razrmax going to fix this texting thing without me having to reboot and lose all my contact information?

Why would rebooting the phone lose all your contact information? Are you thinking that you need to do a "Factory Reset"?

My Razr Maxx is doing the same thing with regard to incoming text messages. I talked to tech support at Verizon and she indicates that the problem lies in the jelly bean app. She said it might take as long as a month before the next update fixes this problem. I am asking for money off my bill.

As someone else mentioned, do the texts start to come in after you restart the phone?

I'm having a similar problem, except mine started right after I got the RAZR HD MAXX. I upgraded from the Droid RAZR, but did not have the problem before December 2012 (I changed phones November 2012). I've put at least 5 tickets in with Verizon on this subject. And they've given me some really off the wall responses, including that I shouldn't type in characters in my texts, or tab (who tabs in a text?). They also replaced my phone, though, and after that didn't fix the problem, they replaced my SIM card. That also didn't fix the problem. So the latest tech support person seems like the first person to really look into this 6 month problem of my 1) not consistently receiving texts, 2) not consistently having others receive my texts with no notice on my end that it didn't go through, and 3) receiving only the 1st or 2nd part of a text - or the other end getting on the 1st or 2nd part of a text I sent. There are no notifications on either end that these texts aren't going through properly. I called each time I missed a text or the receiver missed a text, and provided 15 examples, but they kept saying they needed more, and to call again, and again. So today the Verizon Tech support found that at least for incoming texts, my phone IS receiving the texts (which I can't confirm) but doesn't display them. So they told me Motorola would have to fix this problem in their next software update - whenever that will be. So I called Motorola and told them of the huge problem I have with this phone, and they told me I'd have to send it in to them for analysis and that it could take 7-10 days, and they don't provide replacement phones. So Motorola told me to call Verizon for a loaner while Motorola fixes my phone. I haven't done that yet, I'm beyond frustrated because I'm pretty sure they're going to end up doing a factory reset and try a few texts, which will go through because I can go a week without this happening, send it back to me fundamentally unchanged, then wait for me to call again. I've lost faith.

Hey there pamms,
I am sorry to hear about the issues that you have been having with receiving text messages. That is the main way that I communicate so I absolutely want to make sure that we get you back up and running.
This has been going on for way to long and I want to make sure that we get this fixed.
It sounds like you have been through numerous troubleshooting steps already and I don't want to have you repeat anything. Can you please follow me and direct message me your mobile number?
I'll review your account and take a closer look to see what is going on.

I am having the exact same problem. Got the phone no more than a few days ago, and I'm already unable to communicate reliably via text. This is frustrating after spending $200+ on a new device, only to have the most basic functions not work properly. The issue appears to be mostly with receiving text messages from iPhones. They simply do not show up. Ever. Even after reboot.
What is the solution?
Thanks

I also am having issues with not receiving text messages unless I restart my phone.
I called VZW support and the tech flat out denied that this is a known/repeat issue with the DROID RAZR HD/MAXX.
He then started walking me through the basic trouble shooting steps (restart the Text App, clear the cache, etc.)
Is it possible to talk to someone at Verizon who is actually interested in solving this problem?

Nick,
Can you help me? I am having texts delayed in coming in.. sometimes 4-6 hours. I am on a Razr Maxx HD and the problem seems to be new to me as I have had the phone a few months now.

Hi conhig,
Let's see what's causing the problem! When did the issues begin? Are you using a 3rd party messaging application? Do you experience the issue with all recipients. Can you please attempt to send a text message to yourself and advise if the message was delayed. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Please let us know if anything works. I am on my third Razr Maxx HD and again it is not receiving texts . I called support again and he "provisioned" my texting. I will again wait to see if it happens. My phone will receive the text if I power it off and back on. Any time I get seven to nine text I know it was not receiving text again. I am invested in this phone with a Motorola dock and two cases. I love the long battery life but I cannot understand why so many people are having this same problem. The tech I spoke to has the same phone and has never had a problem.
please let us know if your phone is fixed and how it was done.

This same issue has been going on with my Maxx HD the last month or so as well. It sounds like a JB problem according to the threads here. Hope they build a fix for it soon. I keep missing important texts.
