RAZR "No Sim Card" error, overheating, and constant rebooting.

My RAZR, which I love dearly, recently got a little warmer than usual. Actually it was scalding hot. So hot that my battery drained from completely full to about 30% in 15 minutes. I turned the phone off to let it cool down for a little while, but once I turned it back on it displayed the "no service" error message at the bottom of the lock screen. I've tried wiping the cache first but that didn't work. Then I tried factory resetting the phone through the system recovery menu. Nothing that I have read about on these forums that has worked for other RAZR users has worked for me. I understand that the sim card is probably shot, but that doesn't explain the persistent overheating and rebooting when I remove the sim card and reboot into safe-mode. I still have about 6 months on my current contract and I'm waiting for the HTC One, but I need to have a functional phone right now. Please help if you can.

If a factory reset and system cache clear haven't helped, then yes, I'd suggest a new SIM card. They're free at your local Corporate Verizon store.

Is a "Corporate Verizon Store" any different that a normal retail Verizon store say at a mall? If so, how can I find one?

You can use the store locator link at the top of the website. It can filter between corporate store and all stores (retail, kiosks, and corporate).
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Well your not going to get any service there if the Card is out of the phone, the Card is what makes the 4G connection if it's out re-insert your card then run your Razr in Safe-Mode.. You might give this app a Try it's Called System Panel it's app i'v used it for 3 years it will let you know what your phone is Doing.. Give it a try..

I've already established that the sim card is shot so it isn't going to work regardless being inserted or not. What I was trying to by removing the broken sim was to identify the cause for the overheating/rebooting problems. So far I have no answer. the phone doesn't stay on long enough for me to download an app. It restarts every 15 seconds or so.

Ok as Tiki indicated you can go to a Corporate store and pick a Sim Card or if you'd rather you can have one sent to your home address). One thing I wanted to suggest since i have 2 Razr Maxx's my self and i installed my Cards in both of them...
This is how i installed the Cards in both of my Razr's on doing that not once did i make contact with the gold part of the Card which is Very Very sensitive ( if you get the Card at the store put the card in something protective as usually at the store they'll have the Card's in a Stack of so many most likely they'll give you the first one). I waited till i got home to install my card i took it out of the protected case it was in and place it on our kitchen table the table was clean before i set the Card on it).
From there i used a X-Acto hobby knife to cut the Tabs that holds the Mini Sim after i pierced the Tabs i lifted the holder up and away from the Card then i grabbed the Card by it's Edges and inserted the Card till the butt end of the card was flush with the Razr i finished the install using a Round tooth pick Cut flush on both ends i used the Toothpick to fully lock in the Sim Card there is a spring Mechanism that catches the Card). Just like the SD Card holders do..
This might seem what i suggested a little over the Top but if you've had some Hobby experience) Like with me i have had some with model Trains and RC cars. So cutting the Tabs were easy and by using method of installing the card to me its the safest way to keep away from the sensitive part of the Card..
Let me know how it Goes after you install the card and get her powered up if you need any more assistance i'll try and help as much as i can.. b

If your phone is constantly looking for a signal, that could be a reason your battery is overheating. Again, I'd suggest trying a new SIM card.

It doesn't say that it is searching for a connection. It merely says "no sim card detected" or "no service: no sim card detected".

Hi Geracijp,
I am sad to hear about the problems you are having with such a great device. From what I read is appears the issues you are having is in reference to the sim card errors. I would recommend trying a new sim card, if the problem persists we will need to look into replacement options. Here is a link to our store locator. http://bit.ly/3SdsA
