I want to be able to put the RAZR MAXX in sleep mode without losing inbound calls. I have found that sleep mode turns the ringer off. Is there any way to set up sleep mode / phone so that inbound calls sound the ringer? Thanks for any help.

Search "bedside mode" in Play Store. It brings up quite a few app options. I've not personally used these so I can't recommend any in particular, but I did love bedside mode on my BlackBerry.
What I do -- because e-mail notifications are the only alerts that come in at strange hours -- is use K-9 Mail for my e-mail client, which lets me disable alerts during designated hours. Calls (and text notifications) still come in, should there be an emergency.

JJAC2843, I certainly provide you with options to allow the phone to continue to ring. When placing the phone in sleep mode, it states that the wireless will be turned off. This is similar to airplane mode in that the phone reduces power by no longer connecting to the network for calls or data. You can try disabling certain services via SmartActions or looking for applications in the PlayStore as SydneyK suggested.
