As I have been searching for an "answer or fix" which appears to be none at this time, after the last Update from VZ or Motorola, did not pay that much attention to whom was pushing the update, I am now getting the "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped" message intermittently when either the Phone or People button are used on my Razr.M only. Specs on the Razr M are System Version 182.46.15.XT907.Verizon.en.US; Android Version 4.4.2; Baseband Version SM_BP_101031.042.32.86PKernel Version 3.4.42-g46d4525-00001-ga9305fd dbbuild@ca88Inxdroid25#1 Tue Jul 29 02:16:18 PDT 2014; Build Number KDA20.62-15; Build Date Tue Jul 29 02:04:27 PDT 2014. System Update Ver. 182.46.15.en.US was Friday, Sept. 12, 2014 10:11 AM. All Cache has been cleared, full power off, and removal of 4 apps installed after this update no help. Major issue when this occurs, you can not make a phone call especially if there was an emergency, very bad scenario and open for major law suit if death occurs due to this malfunction and 911 could not be called. Someone needs to take a look at this, in my opinion, before some real major incident forces this review after the fact.

No thanks. I'll check with some locals before I go that extreme. I really don't want to lose everything.

I've done 3 factory resets for this issue just since last Friday. Yes, it works for a few hours, then comes right back. It wouldn't be such a major issue if it didn't affect the bottom line reason for having a phone...and that is to make phone calls.
Disabling Google+ - No. Safe Mode - No. Clear Partition - No. Clear Data - No. Factory Reset - No.
Any more suggestions?

You have done more than usual troubleshooting mohoosier! Thanks for your trobuleshooting efforts! The fact that your phone works fine for a few hours after a factory reset, indicates that when all aplications are installed the phone encounters some type of conflict and service issue returns pointing to an application conflict. I recommedn doing a factory reset and do not install all your third applications at once. Instead, install one application at a time and test for a few hours before you install another application. This will allow you to identify the conflicting application as your phone will start having same issue after installing the culprit application. Then you can remove it for good test installing the rest of your application in the manner (one at a time and testing between installs). Keep us posted.

Deleted my voice mail per the suggestion in the above link, and...FIXED! Did this yesterday while on a chat session with a Verizon rep, and it hasn't failed once since. Not sure why this fixed it...wish I would have deleted one voice mail at a time, but so what, just glad it's fixed. I was 2 hours from turning this phone (S6 Edge) back in for an iPhone 6. I sent the same link to the Verizon rep and they had never heard of this fix. Said they would put it in their documentation.
As a side note, I am using Verizon's Visual Voice Mail. Not sure if the app is the culprit or not. Will keep an eye on it and post my results. As for now...All Good and very happy about it.

Thanks for trying that BladeCutter. Let's see if we can get the calendar syncing issue resolved for you once and for all. Please be sure to have all of the settings (email address, domain\username, password and server) available for that email account as we are going to remove and re-add that work email account from your Turbo. Once you've verified having those settings available remove the email account ( http://vz.to/1dZWlxE ) and then re-add it via the following steps: http://vz.to/1Pha7N6 . Turn the sync on for email, contacts and calendar and let us know if the Calendar is syncing normally without the error message.
Keep us posted.

I have been having the same problem on a Droid Razr Maxx HD. 5 or 6 times a day, when I try to use the dialer or contacts I will get "Unfortunately Contacts has stopped". If I try it 3 or 4 times, eventually it works. I have tried clearing the cache. I have tried running in Safe Mode. I have tried doing a factory reset and running - no effect (so I reinstalled my other apps).
This all has been happening since the September update to 4.4.2
I am running:
System version 182.46.15.XT926.Verizon.en.US
Model numnber: DROID RAZR MAXX HD
Android version 4.4.2
Baseband version: VANQUISH_BP_100731.020.64.21P
Kernel version 3.4.42-gbd361ac dbbuild@ca88lnxdroid25 #1 Tuesday Jul 29 03:03:04 PDT 2014
Build number KDA20.62-15
Build date TUe Jul 29 02:51:09 PDT 2014
Any solutions? - I've seen this reported elsewhere on this site for various phones (e.g., Droid Ultra). Before I thought it might be specific to my nearly 2-year-old hardware.

I have been having the same problem as of the last week or so. No system update or any apps .All of a sudden started happening. I have cleared the app cache and app data and it will open a few times ok, then the 3rd or 4th time it crashes again and I get the error "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped working"....
This is so darn frustrating. What are my options (can you remote into my phone or something)??????

An update & fix. I had restricted all my background data on my phone at some point. In stead, I enabled background data, then went back and locked each program down individually. What I found was if the Play Store has background data restricted, the contacts app will crash. Why is that? When I have the play store un-restricted it uses a ton of background data (why would that be?).
Anyway, now my contacts app works.

I messed with this issue now for about a month and recalled what changed when this started happening. I was on an international trip when I noticed my phone switched its Time and Date format on a widget. Follow these steps and see if it works for you. It seems to have cleared up the issue for me - for whatever reason:
- Open settings
- Go to "Date and time" under SYSTEM
- Then "Choose date format"
- Select any option, other than the existing option (mine was set to "Regional (12/31/2014)" and I changed it to "12/31/2014"
This seems to have fixed it for me.

Could be a sync process that stalls out with a bad signal.

jojo2,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having troubles with your contacts synching Are other functions affected when you're in an area with low signal? Do the contacts always sync properly when in an area with sufficient signal? Please share some details. Thanks!

I had a Razor Maxx HD as well and was having the same issue, less than two weeks ago I upgraded to a Galaxy Note4 hoping to resolve the issue but unfortunately it continues every time I use the "phone" or "contacts" button. This is quite annoying and is also dangerous in that you cannot make any calls when this happens... not even emergency calls. Please advise if there is a solution out there.
