Hi, I am new to this smart phone thing. My Mother is in the hospital. My sibs and I (three sisters and myself) have been texting back and forth about her condition. Why when I recieve messages from them with more then one person in the To field am I required to use my mobile data plan? It says these messages are MMS?????? There are no pictures attached or any other type of media. Just more then one person in the To field. This seems contrary to what unlimited messaging means. Also my sisters do not have to use there data plans for these messages.... Please help! Thanks

Verizon's system requires multimedia messages (i.e., texts with photos or that are addressed to multiple recipients) be sent over the cellular network rather than wi-fi. They count against your text package, not your data plan.

Thanks for your answer. I am concerned that when it says the message is downloading that it is going against my data plan. Also I did call Verizon Customer Supprt and they did say it did count against my data plan. Is there a Verizon acccount specialist monitoring this thread? If so can you enlighten us? Thank you,
David

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Text messages count against your text package, not your data package, even though multimedia messages (photo, group) have to use the cellular network. Here's additional info.:
