Updated to Kit Kat. Now my phone won't connect to my home Wifi.

Just updated to KitKat.  Now my phone won't connect to my home Wifi.  Even after reentering the password, or making it forget the network and re adding  it.  It shows it, shows it as a saved network, but won't connect. How do I fix this?

Turn off your BlueTooth, it will allow you to use wifi. Not a good fix but something seems to be conflicting between the two

Thank you for the tip about the blue tooth. It worked.  Until they get a fix, I will have to remember to turn it off as I use my bluetooth a lot, but I guess I am happy there's a work around.

I did go into the Verizon store here, and the guy researched it and said... Yep.  It's a problem.  He said that they will be putting out a fix soon, but unk when.

Would have thought something like this would have been caught before release.

Updated to the new software update two days ago. On my phone status is shows update deferred? What's with that? Called tech support..he said not to sorry about it?? Many issues immediately upon rebooting. Today my WiFi will not connect. I hope they get a fix on this soon.

I'm glad I found this post and saw that others were having problems before I did something drastic. Still awaiting a permanent fix, though.

Just ONCE, I want to talk to a Verizon rep without them suggesting that I do factory reset on my phone to fix the problem that I'm having...

We're so sorry you're having problems, I can understand how you feel! We all need a phone that works. Here are some very useful steps for common problems you may have.

Your screen isn't bright enough when you walk outside? FACTORY RESET!

Your text message failed due to no signal? FACTORY RESET!

Your media player is playing music too loud? FACTORY RESET!

You need to need to make a phone call quickly? FACTORY RESET!

You need to find an app someone told you about? FACTORY RESET!

Yours,

Verizon "Support"

I can get the download ok, but will not install. Maybe this is a good thing. Could have VZW put a stop on kitkat?

Same connectivity problems on my Razr Maxx HD after 4.4.2 update. Phone can not connect to wifi with Bluetooth on. Sorry I don't have an answer, hoping Verizon will see this is not an isolated or infrequent issue.

I understand your concern Gipsie, and we want to do everything we can to help your device get back to running smoothly. Do you have bluetooth devices connected or that connect automatically once the feature is on? If so, which ones?

Wasn't Verizon the last carrier to roll out KitKat?  Shouldn't a major problem like the instability to retain a wifi connection have been detected and addressed prior to the KitKat roll out then? I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone. KitKat is my 2nd update since buying the phone Jan '13, and with each new OS update, my wifi connection becomes less stable, less reliable. I should also say that I never have bluetooth enabled on my phone, so that's not the problem (for me at least).

It feels to me almost as if Verizon *wants* this to happen because if wifi doesn't work, we have to resort to using our data plans, which in turn increases the likelihood of overage charges. Perhaps this is a far-fetched theory, but in seeing how many other users of this community have the same problem across different phones AND in talking to people in-person who are Verizon users and who have the same problem, one has to wonder.

And why should a software update be so inconvenient to a device owner anyway?  All these resets and changes forced upon us never happen when software updates are installed on desktop computers.

Major #FAIL!!  😞

Of course, the only answers they have are "restart, safe mode, SIM card,

Factory reset" all which do NOTHING to change the problem they caused with

the foul update. I've done and tried them all. Still crappy.

My droid kept disconnecting from my home WiFi...which, luckily I caught and did not go over my data plan..and I still can't get it to connect to Sync in my car since upgrading to KitKat

maryannlyons,

Thanks for reaching out to us. I know how important it is to have a working phone and staying connected to wi-fi. One thing that you can try to change is a setting in the Wi-fi connections. Let's go into Settings, Wi-Fi, Select Advanced Options, Select Wi-Fi frequency Band, Choose the 5GHz only opiton and then go back to see if you can stay connected to wi-fi. Please keep us posted.

That only is possible as an alternative if they have a 5Ghz access point

and the network setup that way.. most people don't.

My Razor Maxx HD updated to Kit Kat when I was on vacation and now that I am home, the phone drops my home wireless network every time I receive a call. Then the only way it will reconnect is if I power it on and off or if I turn airplane mode on then off again. Big hassle in my book and Verizon needs to get Motorola to quit dancing around the issue by telling everyone to reset their phone which is BS in my book. I too called the Verizon and given the same runaround, they even put me on hold and called Motorola, gee their solution reset. Does that surprise anyone.  Everyone who is experiencing this issue needs to keep calling Verizon till they do something to fix the issue.

NMFSuperDuty,

I can understand how alarming this can be having phone issues. I know you stated that you did call in and they stated to do a reset. I know that is not the ideal thing to do, but has that step been completed. Since you have been home have you went through and deleted your wi-fi connection and re-connect? You can do that by following this link for the step by step directions on how to complete that: http://vz.to/1lwCTs5 Please keep us posted.

I did do the reset and guess what the problem is still there. As this confirms the problem is with the KitKat upgrade and not the phone.

Verizon and Motorola needs to  figure it out and fix the problem rather than having there customers waste their time resetting their smartphone. Enough said. Fix the problem and sooner is better than later.

When you did the factory reset, did you restore the settings from the backup on the Google server? Next time, try without restoring.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Kit kat hosed my ability to connect to WiFi at home.  I have pushed the edge of my data plan every month since the update.  Never came close before.  After reading all of this thread I turned off my bluetooth.  The WiFi connected instantly.  Coincidence?  I don't think so.  Probably just another way for Verizon to shake more money out of us.  Thanks again Verizon.

I am having the exact same issue with my maxx hd- suddenly cannot connect to wifi or Bluetooth. This is my work phone. Not being able to talk on my car phone is NOT OK. Not being able to use wifi to save data and battery is NOT OK. I spent way too much on this phone BC of the long battery promise ( which was NEVER anywhere close to 48 hrs even before I was running apps) and now it won't even hold a charge for ONE day. This is clearly not a hardware issue.  VZW says to do a hard reset. NO! I had to PAY MONEY to get my hosted exchange account set up on this phone. I should not have to pay to repeat that process because of a glitchy update!!!!!!! FIX THE BUG!! DO YOU SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE EXACT SAME COMPLAINT!? What a joke
