Voice Recognititon Problems

I am having some problems with the voice search recognizing some of my words. I can understand it stumbling on "Jean" or "Cell" but it also stumbles on "Brenda" and others. I want to say it worked better under GB than ICS but I had GB for such a short time that I'm not sure that is true. I also perfromed a Factory Data Reset.

Anyway...I can't find any options to help train it better. Am I missing it or is that not available?

Oh the "Personalized Recognition" option is checked under the Voice Search settings.

Thanks

We want you to be able to enjoy the convenience of your voice search app regor3! Are you having difficulties with any other apps? Have you tried using the voice dialer app and the voice search app? Do they both perform the same way. Does the system have problems recognizing your voice with every search? I recommend clearing your app cache as the first step. If the issue persists, please test the device in safe mode.

Thanks for the reply.

1. I don't see any problems with other apps so far.

2. The voice dialer does seem to work better than the voice search. As an example if I use voice search and say "Send Text to Brenda Cell" it comes up with nothing in the Send to area for the text box. I have the same result if I try it starting in the "Text" box and using the microphone symbol and say "Brenda Cell". If I use voice dialer and say "Call Brenda Cell" it at least gives me "Brenda Cell" as one of three options to select. BTW this is a problem for my wife when I let her do the talking. We are both native English speakers and do not have a regional accent.

3. I have fairly good recognition in voice search for things like "navigate to Home Depot" or "who wrote Gone With the Wind".

4. It is not clear to me in your instructions which app I am suppose to clear the cache from. However I have done a complete Factory Reset and chose the option not to reinsatll apps and I also did a system cache clear.

5. The send text issue exists in safe mode also.

Lastly what is the "Personalized Recognition" option under the "Voice Search" settings?  It indicates that it tries to "tailor recognition" of my voice but it doesn't say how to train it. I do have it checked but apparently I'm not doing a good job of personalizing it. LOL

Not being able to use the feature to say "Text Paul Cell" and have it put the Paul Cell listing in the "to" box in texting makes my teeth grind. 🙂

Open up the Voice Commands (not the voice search widget) app and select the wheel (upper right corner of app). Select the Adaption option. MAYBE that will help. But, like it says, be in a noise free environment.

Duewester says: "Open up the Voice Commands (not the voice search widget) app and select the wheel (upper right corner of app). Select the Adaption option. MAYBE that will help. But, like it says, be in a noise free environment."

Hey Duewester... thanks for that hint. I did it and it did not fix my speciific problem . BTW I looked and looked for something like that but I just could not find it. So thanks!

I am now more convinced that the problem is worse in the "Send Text" mode when you use voice search. I say "Send Text to Brenda Cell" and then say "What are you doing?" It then opens the send text box with no name in the "Send to Box" but the message is entered correctly.

However when I say "Send Text to Cherly Cell" it works. LOL It doesn't work when I say "Send Text to Jean Cell"  either and it puts part of the "Send Text to" in the messgae area. Like this "Text Jeannie what are you doing" WTH LOL

So I changed the Brenda Cell contact listing (using the keyboard) to Brenda Mobile. I was hoping the "Cell" word was lacking some sounds the system was looking for. But the same problem existed.

So I had a great idea. I rest the "Brenda Cell" contact to Brenda Mobile... BUT I used the voice option to enter the contact name. So I say "Brenda Mobile" and it worked and the contact is now Brenda Mobile and I save it. Ok then I know the phone recognizes the words "Brenda Mobile"... right?

Now I go back to the Search button and long press it. The voice recognition box opens and I say "Send Text to Brenda Mobile" and say the message "What are you doing". No joy! I get the same result as before... the message is correct but the "send to" box is empty.

So.... I do not seem to have this problem in regualr voice applications IE entering the name "Brenda Mobile" in the Contacts by voice works fine. But if I say "Send text to Brenda Mobile" using voice search it doesn't work. This dilemma leads me to believe I have a bug in the Voice search... at least in regards to sending a text using the phrase "Send Text to" and/or in the "Text" app. It doesn't work well when I go to the Text app and use voice to enter the "Send to" information. To make matter worse it works for some and not others... Brenda Cell and Jean Cell and Paul Cell no wrokie but Cheryl Cell does?

I love technology advances.... sometimes.  LOL

Give Smart Keyboard a try from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.cdeguet.smartkeyboardtrial&feature=search_result#?..., it has is own voice recognition software that is way superior from the stock applications.

Thank you for the links. I am going to try Smart Keyboard and see if it fixes the problem.

I'll post back.

BTW my wife suggested I take the jawbreaker out of my mouth when I use voice search.... but I think she's just swinging in the dark. 🙂

Installed Smart Keyboard and I like the options and I'm going to keep it.

It did not fix the problem with sending text messages using voice search ... IE long press the search icon and say "Send text to Brenda Mobile" (or most other contact names having two words). The problem being it will not put any name in the "To" section of the text or it will put the wrong name..."Paul Cell" is entered as "Paul Work".

Now if I use "voice command" or go directly to "Text" and directly enter the "to" box and use the microphone icon it works much better. In fact it if it isn't sure it gives you options. Brenda Cell  shows the options of Brenda Work, Brenda Home and Brenda Cell.

My conclusion is there are some problems with voice search when you use the "Send Text" command option. Not only is it inaccurate when finding the proper contact name but it doesn't give you options if its confused. The message part of the text when entered by voice is almost flawless. I find other voice commands (navigate, call etc.) when using voice search works very well.

What makes me a little angry, this is the first thing the guy does on the help video for using voice search. He says send text to and uses something like john's mobile (two words for contact) and quickly says the message. He then smiles and goes ... see how easy it is. LOL

Remeber that Smart Keyboard does not use the system voice command because it has its own built in that works better for me...

Now as for the Google Search, have you tried to hit the search button and then while search window is open click the menu button...  There should be a menu for "Search Setting" and then Searchable Items?

If you select Searchable Items and check the items that the application is having issues with you may get a better responce, give it a try and see if it helps you any.

Thanks again for the hint about lookin in Search Setting in the Google Search area. I did that and the box for Peolpe (name of your contacts) was checked.

I think its getting down to either I have a unique flaw on the Voice Search when using  the "Send Text to" feature when it tries to match to the contacts list or.... its not working well for anyone.

As I said all other voice features work well both in Google search and Voice Command.

I had the same problem with sending text and calling. No other problems in search. Voice command works great. I think it is a Google search thing. I had the same issue with my Droid inedible.

I think the voice command is from Moto and voice search is from Google.

I think so too now. Two different programs from different sources but both doing some of the same things but differently.

I wish Voice Command had a "Send Text to" feature. That works better when trying to find contacts in the Text app than Voice Search.

It is under voice commands and send message.  It will only open the text box and enter the name of the recipient.  You have to hit the microphone button.  But it does a good job of translating what you are saying (even entering the punctuation where you want).

I'm Having the same issues.  Also, if I say "Call mom" it will do a google search for things with the keyword mom in it but it will not go to my contacts with mom.  If I ask it to "text mom, I will be late" it either won't work at all or it will just put "mom in the message section".  This phone clearly advertises that this feature is suppose to work.  Go into the app Help Center and click on Google voice actions - suppose to be very easy.  I even paid for the app Jeannie thinking it would work.  Nope!  Her response when I ask her to text mom is "opening text messages".  I'm so frustrated!!!!  I've called verizon tech support several times, had them send me two different new phones, neither one worked and also called Motorola.  All of the techs act as if I'm asking this phone to use some crazy app.  They keep asking me to use the Voice Commands button which is a two step process instead of just pushing the hard button and speaking - like the phone is suppose to do.  Any solutions???

First there is some confusion using voice search for making calls to those in the contacts list. It doesn't do it!

They buried that information deep in the  manual. Apparently even some Motorola and Verizon techs are confused about that. I was hoping it was going to be corrected with ICS but no such luck. They have done almost everything they could to confuse the two issues.... call contacts VS calling numbers found on google search. I won't say they did it on purpose but it took me quite awhile to figure it out and I'm not the only one. If they gave you new phones for that issue only they were asleep at the switch.

You are right.... there is no one click method to use "voice search" to make calls to a contact. However you can put the "Voice Command" on your center home page and then click it and say "call blah blah and it will do it.

So to be clear... there are some very different features between "Voice Command" and "Voice Search". Here's another example ... you can supposedly one click Voice Search to send a text but its a many click effort to do it in Voice Command.  The only reason I can think of why is that one is an Internet function and the other is a telephone function. ... now I'm gussing but it kinda makes sense.

So when the training video guy says "Call blah blah" using voice search...well "blah blah" is not in his contacts. Its a business and it uses google search to find the telephone number. They could have made that much clearer or better yet they could have put "Call Contact (name)" as an option in voice search. Seems like there should be an app for dat. LOL

I agree to some extent.  It does do it on a few phones.  The reason I picked the Droid instead of the IPHone 4s was because the salesman at the Verizon Store had a Droid Razr and showed me how it sent a text and called "wifey".  It worked all in one step when he pressed the hard key on his phone.  I also had mine working when I downloaded the app Jeannie but then it stopped.  So I updated my phone to ICS and now it won't work again.  I paid for the full verison of Jeannie but still not working.  It will only open the text messaging when i ask her to send a text.  However, all other features of voice actions work using either Jeannie or Voice Search.

My biggest issue is this is an advertised feature on this phone but yet noone seems to know about it or how to fix it. And yes, the motorola tech did tell me that the manual says to use voice commands not voice search/voice actions.

I know this isn't a fix to the original software but have you considered Vlingo from the Play Store, it works well for sending text messages and with the InCar feature you can start texting without touching the device?

John i kind of having the Same issue when i visit the Browser when i do a Voice Search: with a Word Like ( android central ) it pops it up like this Android central with the first letter in Capital. I have done every thing that i could think of clear the Cache of both the Voice search & Motorola Keyboard. to Clearing the Cache Partition and nothing changes.

I did however though get it to Work with Changing to the Swype Keyboard i also got it To work using a Vendor key Board ( Smart Keyboard) And it works using  the voice search that is built in Dolphin HD

So Either Google needs to update this App to fix the Issue or Hopefully a Factory Reset will solve the Issue.. Thanks for time b33
