Hello. I noticed a setting called "Key protection" in the settings for encryption. I don't know what it means. All other settings on this screen seem pretty self-explanatory, but I don't know what key protection means? Does it mean key-escrow? What is it?

From the RAZR MAXX ICS User Guide:
Encrypt Your Smartphone
Caution: If you forget your encryption key password, you cannot recover the data stored on your smartphone or microSD memory card. Encrypting your files can take an hour or more. Leave your smartphone plugged in, and be careful not to interrupt the process.
Encryption protects the files and data stored on your smartphone and microSD memory card, so that people cannot access them if your smartphone is stolen. Find it: Menu > System settings > Security > Data encryption
You can encrypt all the files you save on your smartphone and microSD memory card, encrypt all personal data on your smartphone, and encrypt your email, calendar, and/or contacts.

Unfortunately this still doesn't answer my question. I did read the Droid Razr documentation on it. It's that specific function which I do not know. Key protection is under the section of "device data encryption." One can choose Device Data, which it says encrypts all personal data on the phone, and below that as a separate option is Key Protection. I've observed that if I enable Key Protection and restart the phone, it goes through a boot process, asks for the phone's password, then reboots again, after which it brings up the enter password screen again that is just the normal screen lock. If this option is NOT enabled, and just Device data is enabled, it's able to boot up directly to the standard lock screen.
Thank you for your help, though.
