Why do my incoming calls say 'UNKNOWN NAME' instead of the number?

How do I turn off Verizon's caller ID? I updated my Verizon a few weeks ago and now all my calls say UNKNOWN NAME. It used to show the number. I don't want to fix Verizon Caller ID, I don't want to use it. There are better third party caller ID apps I could use. I just want to return to how it was before the update when it showed the number. Now I'm picking up phone calls from people in a different area code and missing calls because I'm expecting it to be from a different area code. It's annoying, help me turn it off.

Kingkarl2020, help has arrived. I'm sorry to learn that your Caller ID is coming up as an Unknown Name. Are you also using the Moto Z device? How long has this been an issue? Does this happen even with the contacts that you have stored on your phone? KevinR_VZW

Verizon introduced call filter in place of caller ID. I'm not sure they notified their customers. The second agent I spoke with restored caller ID. Some of the Verizon agents are unfamiliar with this, and the first agent I spoke with told me the reason was the age of my smartphone. That was untrue.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've seen in a very long time. Why in the world would any carrier think it's acceptable to completely hide all phone numbers- on a phone?!?
Now I can't even tell if a call is from my area code or not. Makes it impossible to run a business. Beyond absurd. Someone should be fired for this one.

Yes, I subscribed to the call filter service and the problem started.
then I tried to upgrade to the paid version of filter, same problem.
Then I tried to completely remove filtering from my line- same problem.
From everything I have read here, there is a persistent change to the account once call filter or caller ID app is enabled. Once this happens, you can no longer see phone numbers for incoming calls, only "unknown caller" or "wireless caller".
It's a well known issue, that you must get in touch with Verizon support to have them "un-break" your caller ID, to resolve this issue and actually see phone numbers on incoming calls again.
I'm just shocked that support continues to act like they are not aware of this issue, after seeing literally hundreds of topics and posts about it now. It is a very wide spread, common problem for many users. Are we really still pretending that this is not a known issue with ALL add-on call filtering and caller ID services?

Simple, Verizon does not want you to know if Spammers or telemarketers are calling you. They most-likely have a business agreements with them to allow them to prey on the Verizon customers. Follow the money.

There is a solution to this and all of your representatives should be educated as how to fix it. I spent 6 hours wasting my time over this. One day I had number and the next day UNKNOWN NAME. No one had the answer and I had to find the solution myself. It's a little embarrassing for Verizon that 5 representatives couldn't solve this problem. They each spent WAY more time than I did looking for a solution. Something as simple of this should just not be happening. Too many good people are out there looking for jobs. If the solution doesn't lie in your handbook, you need the teach these individuals to think out of the box..Come on now...

With the amount of time invested thus far, I'd be annoyed as well. Between turning Call Filter off and now, has the problem continued?

Marbque, knowing who's contacting you is essential to your wireless experience. We're here to help! To gain clarity, if you miss the call, does your missed calls indicate a phone number? What is the make and model of your phone?

I would like to know a solution as well. A VW chat agent insisted every incoming call I get must have their info blocked. But that doesn't make sense to me because I can see the number in my call history.
What do I need to do to see the number of an incoming call? This used to work and I do not have a new phone.

Lzb38 are you referring to individuals calling you that are not in your contact list? They may have their number restricted from showing. DoloresK_VZW

Verizon Support stop asking questions!! We are all having basically the same exact issue. Just suggest the solution. It's happening with several models of phones and often times the issue just comes out of no where. It happens with individuals that are not saved our contacts!! Read this string of messages. You'll get all of your answers. Don't you see that no one even answers your questions. Stop asking and just provide solutions. Go down each message and post a possible solution. I cannot believe the level of inefficiency. I just wasted 6 hours with a million questions being asked to me. The issue just seems to happen out of no where on various different devices and models of phone.

This is what happens when jobs, specifically call center jobs go over seas.
Verizon agent, you have multiple end users complaining about the same issue. I'm certain your dept is aware of this issue most likely thru a knowledge base database at the very least.
So please stop with asking abc questions.
Verizon agent, probably good idea to check with co workers, your email . When multiple end users have this kind of problem. It's more likely effecting alot more people.
20 years I.T professional, I'm sad to see this issue unable to get resolved. Instead the verizon agents does not read thru what the end users are saying so he asks repetitive questions. It's ridiculous!!!!!

I also have this problem. Verizon, please figure out and post a solution to this issue. How to get a phone number to show up instead of UKNOWN NAME. This is an extremely inconvenient feature to have automatically put into place.
