I'm unable to connect to a WI Fi network, the net work is working because I am using my laptop computer on the same network. Wi Fi is turned on, I go to settings and select the network, first it says "Obtaining IP address" then "remembered" then "disabled. what do I do to fix this problem?

Does your router require a password?
Is your router set to only accept specific MAC address'? (That is my guess)

Thanks for stating the obvious there Budone. If you had actually read my question, you would see that I am using my laptop computer on the same router, which means I would have known if the router requires a password. Also, the router does not only accept specific MAC addresses as I am using my laptop, and this is a community router, so several other people are using the same router. There must be some setting in my phone that is disabled, or something wrong with the phone. If anybody has experience with this problem, let me know. Thank you.

Do you have security set up on your Router if you do.. know one will use your router but if you Don't ever one will be happely riding your routers wave. Go to your settings on your phone > then go to Wireless an Network settings.. while there tap Wi-fi Settings down a ways it should show you.. your Router an Routers around you if your in say a apartment building. When you connect to your Router you can tap your routers name an it will bring up a small square box that will tell you if your Secure or Not. an your Mac address will be there as well.
Update: Sorry Blaine ((( when i first read the post i miss read were it said community Router i was thinking it was your personal Router. The eye's have looked on here long enough time to turn in. B33

Not necessarily. You don't say that you set the network up, whether or not you are the only person who uses the network or were the one who originally input the password on your laptop for the network. For people to assume these things can lead to some pretty contentious exchanges between people.
I have 4 people in my house who use a laptop on my home network and I can guarantee you that I am the only one who uses it that is aware there is a password for the network.
I think that Budone had valid questions.

Thanks B33, at home, I have a secure network. But not where I am at now. Unfortunatly, I just bought this phone a few days ago before I got to my temporary location. So I was'nt very proficient with it in the first place. But like I said, my laptop works great.

Do you have to input the password everytime you use this equipment. If not, how would someone know that it is using a password unless they were the person who had entered the password the 1st time it was used?
In no way am I saying that the network shouldn't be secured. I am saying that if it is like my equipment on my network, once you input the password into a laptop the 1st time it can be setup to remember the password. Anyone using that piece of equipment after this point would have no knowledge that it has a password to access the network it is using, UNLESS they were the person who input the password in originally. Since this information was not given originally, it would not be right for anyone to assume it.

Alright, to better clarify my problem, I am using a community router that DOES NOT required a password, I am connected to it with my laptop. My next door neighbor is also able to use my router as well as several other people using phones and laptops. I am not able to connect with my DROID RAZR or my Nook Color tablet reader. Both devices are continually searching for the IP address and do not connect. The popup window for the router says that it is an unsecured network with good to excellent signal strength at 54 Mbps. Once again, this is NOT a password proplem. If there is anyone who has any other advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you, Blaine

Could it be the number of allowed connections at one time?

no, this doesn't help, I can detect the router on my phone and nook, but when i press connect it just constantly tries to "obtaining IP address" for some reason it just won't connect, and it has no security type, (WEP or WSP)

I don't think so, the router is in my room, but my next door neighbor is connected to it, and I've had friends come and go who can connect with thier Iphones. But my RAZR and Nook will not connect. It mostly says "optaining IP Address" but occasionally flashes to "remembered" it seems to be constantly trying to connect.

Could be your devices MAC address needs to be added to the router to allow you to connect. Does it work elsewhere on WiFi?
