Wifi going grey after screen turns on

I have had my phone for almost a month and use it mostly in Wi-Fi hotspots. I rarely have to rely on 3 or 4g unless I am driving, so I have smart actions turn my 3g/4g radio off when I am in range of certain routers like my house or work. I never had any issues until last Monday. I noticed that when I checked my phone, the WiFi symbol was grey. I tried to do a simple google search and it stated it could not connect to a network. After a few minutes, suddenly the wifi symbol went blue and I was able to get weather updates, e-mail, etc...basically data. But then it would go to grey again randomly. And I also noticed the signal meter was not as responsive. Last week as I walked away from the room with the router, I would see the signal slowly drop away the further away I got...normal. Now I do that and I hardly get any registry from the signal meter. It stays on 3-5 bars and does not move no matter where I go. Occasionally when it pops back to blue, it will change the meter strength.
I make sure wifi is always on and I make sure it is never on a sleep mode. Nothing has changed with my router. It still functions as it always had wireless or otherwise with all my other devices.
I'm wondering if my wifi radio is defective.

Hello psilver1,
The Motorola Droid Razr is currently my favorite device! I love the design and the build quality on this phone! Not to mention the screen size is perfect for texting as I have fat fingers. If only I had an upgrade available then I would buy one in a heartbeat. Thank you for sharing the details of the situation that you are having with your device. May I ask have there been any changes on the device such as a software update or a data app download? Just to confirm that you have the most up to date and approved software version, please reply with your software version, kernel version, and baseband version. Below are some troubleshooting steps that you can try to resolve your wifi issues.
- Reset or reboot the wireless router that you are connecting to.
- Update the device software. (if needed)
- Delete any 3rd party data management apps or widgets.
- Remove/Delete the wifi network from the device's memory and re-connect manually.
- Perform a factory reset on the device. (See link below)

If you decide to perform the factory reset then it's recommended to backup your contacts and calendar entries. Backup Assistant is an excellent app to archive your contacts. Your calendar entries can be saved using your Gmail account. Once you have performed the reset, the device will need to be re-setup. This process takes about 2 - 5 minutes as there is a tutorial that makes this easy. Once you have setup the device then please test call voice and data services. Finally, test the wifi connection for functionality. If the issue persist then please reply to this message with the results of the troubleshooting for additional assistance.
Thank you...

Resetting the router seemed to help, which is odd since all my other
devices were functioning just fine on their wireless connection. Hopefully
it will stay consistent.
