okay, so i spend an hour today at the vzw store... and after ANOTHER factory reset, the GMAIL APP Icon was present so we set up my GMail account first.
Then we set up my corporate email account... and guess what... After setting up my corp email account, of course the phone has to be encrypted... well, post encryption low an behold the GMail App ICON is GONE!!! Yes, just the Icon is removed form the phone. when going into Play Store, it says the GMail App IS installed. Its just the ICON has been removed... coincidentally by the installation/setup and encryption of my corp email account. Is this possible? is this coincidence or what could be happening here? How could setting up my Corp email account be removing the ICON for GMail?

It sounds like this is a question to be posing to your company's IT department. There has to be a security policy in place that disables the Gmail App when adding the corporate email account to the phone.
Try go to Settings > Apps > swipe to the "ALL" list and scroll down to the very bottom and see if Gmail is listed as "disabled". If it is there, try to "Enable" it and see if it does it or gives you an error.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Hello Cisco66,
We definitely don't want the Gmail Application to be a ghost on your phone! As Ann mentioned it is definitely possible for an IT policy to disable/hide applications on cell phones.
As you mentioned the app was there but once your corporate email was added on a long with it's security the app is hidden.
Definitely talk to your IT department and have them review the IT policy closely!
Thanks,
