definitely sounds odd, but i've never heard of a screen just cracking without some kind of pressure being put on it (coworker cracked an iphone screen simply by keeping it in his front pocket. he's a big guy and when he sits down, his thigh was puting pressure on the device....like the device was being squished beetween his thigh and the outer denim of his jeans pocket....enough to make it crack).

This is definitely possible. Yet I don't think I would tell anyone that pressure from my thigh broke my iPhone. Lol!

I put my my phone in my front Pocket every once in a while but most of the Time it's in my Jacket or i clip my flap Holster to my Pants. Phones are made Tough but just a little twist from your Leg an the Size of the phone can Twist it enough to Crack it. Same thing happened To The Dodge Pickups one year the Torque from the Engine the V10 was so great it Twisted the Frame of the Truck just enough that it Cracked the Windshields on them an when they were replaced they would go for a while an it would happen Again.. That is till Dodge finally fixed it

lol...he didn't. he didn't even know how it happened. he showed it to me (it was 2 days old) and was like "what the....?" he said it was fine when he used it last and then all he did was put it in his pocket. i told him to sit down, and then i awkwardly pointed out just how tight his jeans get when he sits down. that's when he realized how much pressure he was puting on it when it's in his pocket and he's sitting down. he now uses a case for his belt...lol

Nothing is unbreakable, I have seen a number of users damage a screen by placing them in a pocket, I damaged a device before in a bbelt carry case also because when I was in a work chair I did not notice that the phone was pressing on the arm of the chair until the damage was done.

Gorilla Glass or not, all items have a stress breaking point...

The worst I've done is drop an unpeeled hardboiled egg right on my display (which leaves a mark, by the way).

Folks, quit making fun of this guy and others that have had the screen break.  This phone, in spite of the advertising: Gorilla Glass, Kevlar case, metal frame, etc., is extremely fragile.  I had mine break the Gorilla glass taking a picture.  Never been dropped and I've had touch screen phones for years.

It's not that they are hard on the phone, it's that the phone is not strong enough to be used as a portable device in the field by normal people.  We're not talking about dropping it off a ladder, we're talking about setting down in a chair, or maybe setting it on a table.  Or, our 3 year old looking at a picture on it and flexing the case a little bit.  Normal stuff we all do every day.

Motoroala (or maybe Google) and Verizon want this phone to be part of our everyday life so we use and buy more of their products.  That means it should be able to withstand our everyday life, not break when we forget and actually use the thing instead of just watch 'movie trailers' and listen to music.

It isn't a baby that has to be coddled and protected at all times, it's a freaking phone.

Very interesting indeed.  I had the DX for 18 months - no case or any protector at all. I *always* carried it in my front pants pocket(s) or my cargo pockets in my shorts. I had the occasional 'bang' against stuff just in the course of walking around or sitting. Would go out on the town dancing with it in my pocket as well.  Had the Razr Maxx now for about 4 weeks - same procedure - no case, front pocket(s) ...  you guys are scaring me into maybe getting a case for this one.  lol

For folks coming here with this problem, there are a lot of people having this problem.  There's roughly one or two a day turning up on various sites around the web.  When they say this hasn't been reported to customer service, call <********>, there have been scores of people calling about this problem.  If you call Motorola and they tell you they have not had reports of this, call <********> again and tell them the same thing.  You can even contact Corning (I and several other have) about this.

Sure you need your phone and don't have time to waste playing games with the manufacturer and suppliers, but at least leave a comment and complain loudly to the customer service people.

I have a droid Maxx of which, out of the blue, the amoled screen cracked. NOT the Gorilla glass. NOTHING happened to my knowledge to cause this, phone looks as if it came out of the box today, except when you look a little closer you can see it through the Gorilla glass. I’m getting the physical damage blame game from Verizon, although the people in the Verizon retail store seem surprised how this could happen, phone looks brand new. They don’t go very far to help me though. and proceed to tell me that I may be charged the entire retail price of a new phone if they send it in for exchange. I will blow up if that happens, especially after reading all these remarks. Where do we stand with the legal action, I WANT TO HELP
