Audio Issues with RAZR MAXX HD

I listen to Pandora sometimes in my car on my way to work. I have noticed since I got this phone, when a notification sound plays, like when I get an email or text message, the music audio degrades to where the vocals are barely heard and even the instumentals sound distored. I noticed with the Jelly Bean update, that the wired stereo sound options are no longer listed in the settings. The only place I fould them was in the Google Music app, but they do nothing for Pandora or other apps. I have also tried some third party equalizer apps thinking it was just an equalizer setting that needed tweaked. Nothing has worked. Not sure how to proceed with this one.
