Can I retrieve pictures from my device if the screen is broken?

My wife fell on the ice and dropped her phone smashing the screen. The phone seems to still work but nothing shows up on the touch screen other that a few random horizontal lines of pixels every now and then. She hadn't ever backed up any of her pictures to the cloud. Is there any possible way to retrieve the pictures before sending it back? The replacement phone will arrive before she has to send this one back.

Plug the phone into a computer using the USB cable.

Open any file manager and open the phone (will be showns as an external drive). You should be able to open the pictures folder and move the pictures to the computer for safe keeping
