My Droid Razr M is acting weird, the screen stretches up and down and now my Home Icon is missing so when you go into something there is no back button or home button to get out. Anyone had this happen? I did hard reset and restored to factory settings and still not fixed.

Are you using a non-stock launcher or app that changes your wallpaper or screen? What happens if you run in SAFE mode? If everything looks OK in SAFE mode then you have an app that is interfering with your home screen.

Also if you suspect an app causing the problem do not automatically restore your apps and data via the Google backup mechanism when you do a factory reset.
Are your sure someone has not rooted you phone and altered some OS files? That's one sure way of removing the navigation bar/controls.

I went through safe mode and then ended up doing a factory restore and still nothing. How would it have been rooted??

While in SAFE mode did the phone exhibit the same screen behavior? Or did the navigation bar show at the bottom of the screen? If the phone is completely stock, then it might be possible that one or more OS files are corrupt. The only way to correct a corrupt firmware is to have Motorola or Verizon reflash it for you. If the phone is still under warranty you may want to consider getting it replaced by Verizon.
How could it be rooted? If you bought the Razr M used, from a non-corporate Verizon store, or independent phone retailer it could have been tampered with. If someone (friend/relative) had your phone for a while to load software or program it for you it could have been tampered with. There are two easy ways to know if your phone is rooted: 1) Have some who is knowledgeable (Verizon or other technician) go into the Service Menu and look or 2) boot into the Android System Recovery menu and look to see what the qe value is (it should be 0/0).
qe 0/0 (never rooted)
qe 1/1 (currently rooted)
qe 0/1 (not currently rooted, but has been rooted in the past)
Is it possible for you to post a screenshot of the problem so there is no confusion about what the problem is?

You can try the following, but note that you will have to set up your Homescreen again after doing this. Go to "Settings > Apps > All (far right screen) > Homescreen > Clear data" select to clear Homescreen data and then reboot your phone.
If this does not work and if you are still under warranty, get a replacement phone from Verizon. It's probably a corrupt file and a Factory Reset will not fix corrupt files.

Let's get your solutions pronto mommajucinda! Are you able to drag and drop app icons to the bottom part of your phone where home icons should be? If so, do they stay in place when you move to other screens? If the answer is no, and you already did a hard reset http://vz.to/159Lipc you may need to replace http://vz.to/uyYF0o the device. Is it within the one year warranty? Any physical or water damage?

I have recently started seeing this on my Motorola Razr Maxx HD. It does not happen all the time, mostly when an app uses the full screen. Does not seem to be tied to any single app. I have not installed any new apps for about a week before I started seeing this. Many of my existing apps auto-update, so that may be related. Sometimes pausing the app that has taken over the screen will bring back my home/back/apps buttons, but not always. I have seen the discoloration at the bottom of my screen for some time, but it has not been an issue (other than annoying) until now. I am also seeing my phone do a mini-crash (for lack of better term) after this. The screen will go black, but after a few moments it will pop back up to the lock screen and act like it had just restarted (no service, no apps running).

This same thing just started happening randomly to my Razr HD. It is very odd, sometimes the Factory Reset will get the buttons back and sometimes it wont. Just got them to come back again and set the screen not auto-rotate, fingers crossed that this will work.

Updating the auto-rotate settings was of no use...though I did find that if I leave my phone plugged in for a period of time the icons seem to come back.

lodgema,
We want to make sure you have a fully functional device. Let us know if the Factory Reset and turning off auto rotate worked. If your issues are not resolved we may need to look into replacement options. Keep us posted.
