Recently my Droid Razr M has been randomly restarting throughout the day. Does anybody know why it is doing this?

This is not a common behavior of the RAZR M. Probably an app that you have added is not playing fair with the OS. First do a soft reset on your phone, power off, and then hold Volume-Down and Power buttons at the same time for 10 seconds of so until your phone reboots. Did the problem go away. If not can you run for a day in SAFE mode to see if the reboots stop? If they do it's one of your apps. As a last resort do a Factory Reset, but be aware this deletes your data and apps so do a backup first. Google Gmail is a good way to back up your contacts. If the reboots still happen in SAFE mode and after a Factory Reset, then you may have a hardware problem and need to contact Verizon for a replacement unless they can offer a better solution..

This is not meant to offend you, but how do you know it is doing that? Do you carry in your pocket or in a case. The reason I ask is I have one too, and I know the screen can be little sensitive to touch. Mine does weird things once in awhile too. Are you running any task manager/killer apps? I have heard some of those can cause a phone to power cycle.

Mine is doing it, as well - and has been for a couple of weeks now. I just bought the phone in January, and it was perfect until about 3 weeks ago. I have my phone on a stand next to my PC during the day while I'm at work, so I can catch texts from my family & husband if necessary. All of a sudden, I'll notice the red M logo has popped up and the phone is rebooting. I have been using the phone, say in an app that is functioning fine. I'll swipe the screen to scroll down further or tap to open an option and the screen will freeze, then the phone will reboot. I keep it locked the rest of the time, due to a security feature for my company email, and the phone is just sitting up so I can see the screen during the work day and will reboot without ever having been touched. Last night, it randomly rebooted five times in a row. I shut it down every night, and haven't added any new apps. Just all of a sudden started doing this reboot dance after a software update last month. Getting REALLY tired of it.

Hello dbrock80, Oh no I am so sorry to hear this is happening on your device. We want to make sure you are able to use your device as expected. Has any troubleshooting been completed on your device? Has a master reset been completed on the device to remove any applications. Certain applications on the device can cause the device to power cycle. We look forward to hearing back from you.

I had a Motorola razor for both my wife and myself, Everything worked great but had trouble with call quality, Must be my area, Verizon was very good about it, We went thru all kinds of tests, They let me go back to a basic flip phone and waived the restock fee, Customer service was great with me and I want to thank them for all the effort to make sure I was satisfied.

Did a factory reset, then phone rebooted while I was in the middle of a call about an hour later. Only apps left on the phone are the pre-installed ones. I even tried disabling those (mainly the Amazon and social apps) and its still not working correctly. I’ve only had this phone since January, and the issue started around the time I did an update (per the phone message) on the OS. Considering I’m locked into a contract with this phone until January 2015, I really need to get it functioning again. Guess I’ll have to take some time off work tomorrow to visit a store…

I'm having similar problems. I bought my Razr M in February as an upgrade from an HTC Incredible. It worked flawlessly, and I was very happy with it.
Then on April 23 Verizon pushed a firmware update. It's been unstable ever since , mostly random reboots. It locked up completely once while I was trying to make a call. I took it to the Verizon store and had them show me how to reset it, since there's no way to remove the battery and I couldn't figure out how to un-freeze it.
It continued the random reboots, even in the middle of calls. So I took it back to the Verizon store and we did a factory reset. "You shouldn't have any more problems," he said. Four days later it rebooted while I was trying to enter a number to make a call. It's rebooted randomly, mostly in the middle of the night, since then.
I only have a couple of apps other than the apps that came pre-installed. And I haven't used any of them in weeks. I have most notifications turned off - I don't use my phone for online stuff like email when I have access to that on my computer at home, and only use those features if I travel.

I took mine back my Verizon retailer, and they just had to order a new one (since it’s still under factory warranty.) Should be here by the weekend, so we’ll see if that fixes it. After 2 factory resets, mine was still doing the random reboot dance!

Am having same problem with random restarts. Very annoying as I use phone to listen to audio books and have to wait while it restarts. Phone reception seems to have degraded as well. All this since the latest factory system upgrade. Android 4.1.2 baseband version SMP BP 101031.027.32.81p
Build 9.8.1q-66
Any chance that there will be a fix coming?

I sure hope there’s a fix coming! Went to the retail store Saturday, and was told “we could change out your SIM card, but that probably won’t fix it so we’ll just order you a new one since it’s still under factory warranty.” When I bought this phone 4 months ago, I purchased it brand new for $200. Last night, I received a “Like New” replacement phone – which I’m not thrilled about. If it works, though, I’ll be a little less annoyed. Not sure why they’d offer to replace it in hopes it will fix the issue since the issue is with the OS. If other users are having the same issue, why not just fix the OS instead of throwing replacements at the problem? Hope you get a resolution!

I find that when my phone starts doing something out of the ordinary ,it's because of an app that I have installed. If you read the permissions that some of them ask for ,you will be surprised. I always read them now and have had fewer problems. I do not know if this is your problem ,but I would sooner go without an app than put up with my phone and personal information going crazy and to who knows. In short just check permissions before installing
