Am new to smartphones...I got a Droid Maxx this week - while "sweeping" my fingers on the main screen, I moved the phone icon off the screen and cannot figure how to get it back. Please Help!

Welcome to Android...and your problem is easily solved if you haven't already got it figured out. Tap the Apps icon to see list of all the apps installed on the phone. Swipe till you see the phone icon, press and hold itto drag it back to your home screen.
From there you can press and hold and drag it to your favorites at the bottom so it's always there no matter what screen of apps you are on.
