Ever since I did the 7.1.1 update on my phone (Moto Z Droid)it is all [removed] up! Battery severely drains, only get maybe an hour of use..if lucky! Phone dies even when says that has enough battery left. Some of my apps aren't working correctly. Tried everything to fix...and last resort did factory reset which actually seemed to make it worse! I really liked the phone when I got it but now it is worthless! I can ONLY use it if I keep it plugged in all the time. So much for being a "mobile" phone. I can't take it anywhere cause it will die in a few hours because the battery drains even when NOT in use and even in Safe Mode! My phone was working fine before I did this 7.1.1 update. I so regret doing it because it has totally ruined my phone.

Wow, just finished reading the 13 pages of this post. At least I am not alone in my frustration with this phone or verizon. Have the same battery issue as the rest but at least mine will last a couple of hours that is if i do not use it! On top of this When I purchased my phones 1.5 years ago I went into a verizon store and was sold a buy one get one deal for the MOTO Z. But then after several months I find out that the promotion had expired a couple of days prior to my purchase.
I went back to the store and spoke to the manager several times explaining that I was sold the promotion and expected it to be honored. I tried calling Verizon corporate but was told since it was a franchisee their was nothing they could do! At the time I did not know it was a franchise store since all they had was Verizon products and the store was only branded Verizon. So not only was the promotion I was sold by a Verizon representative not honored now I have two phones that I am still paying for every month that are pretty much useless. Almost twenty years as a loyal pay my bill on time customer and treated like this is really hurtful and disappointing. I have to agree with Simplem above

We want you to have a working phone, can you provide us with the details as to what happens when you cant receive calls? Does your phone show a signal on top? Are you able to make outgoing calls?

If my phone is not plugged in it shuts off. Period. I don't even have to be
doing anything on it. When I plug it back in the battery shows anywhere
from 60 to 90%.

Hello, and a great day to you. I had the same issue, and bluetooth was draining the charge, but when they reset the phone in settings, it did not work either. If you have total replacement and your phone is damaged and battery is not charging they will send a replacement phone at a charge of $19.00. You have a great day. You will have to call Asurion the insurance company number 1-888-881-2622, you will or might have to file a claim first or just go straight to a person on the phone that might be easier. Good luck.

Since Oreo my phone may show from 30% to 15% battery, and will shut down and not be able to power on, saying it's at 0% .when I plug the charger in and power it up, it's immediately shown up to 60%, but usually around 25%. There seems to be an issue of reading the battery percentage properly, as well as the previously mentioned sudden drain. My texts take forever to load now, and I don't have many stored. I've tried the calibration methods I've found, also leaving it in safe mode charging for over 24 hours, and the same issues remain. I did not have these problems until the most recent update (Oreo). I've had my phone for two years, and reading all of the threads am disappointed that this was not addressed when others experienced many of these problems with the last update. I too will not be a return customer.

Same here! I just unplugged my phone after a full charge and it's saying I have nine minutes of charge left. It's been unplugged for a half hour. I'm due for an upgrade soon. Conspiracy?

Yet another user with the same problem. I've tried everything suggested in this thread and my battery dies still in minutes. Time for a class action lawsuit.

TERPTIME,
The battery is a crucial component of our phones these days and hearing yours depletes as quickly as it does, makes me eager to provide you with a fix. Let's work together and get a resolution in place.
I know you mentioned you've gone through all of the steps within this forum, but we want to be diligent with our side of the process as well, just to ensure there wasn't a missing link along the way that can resolve your issue.
When did you notice this first start happening with the battery draining? Currently, how often do you use your device (Heavy User with frequent streaming of video/audio. Moderate User with occasional streaming. Light User, with little to no usage of streaming/browsing)? Lastly, have you recently updated an app or installed a new one?
We look forward to getting you back on your feet with a properly working Moto Z!

This thread is a nightmare. Verizon customer service is completely useless. I just started having this issue with the last update and there hasn't been one helpful suggestion from a Verizon rep. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps listed and no luck. Is there any word on a fix for this? How about just replacing all the dysfunctioning hardware for free? I am definitely in for the class action lawsuit.

Hello GAROLS95, thank you for contacting us. We know how irritating a short battery life can be, and we're here to help. Apologies if you have not been given the proper assistance. Software updates are meant to make the devices work better, not mess them up. If your issue started after a software update, more than likely your hardware is not to blame. We would hate to waste your time and have you duplicate the troubleshooting steps you have already done. Please tell us exactly what have you done to try to fix this already?

Hello UbaldoJ_VZW. I understand how time consuming it may be to read through a thread this size. And i would like to assist you as much as possible in actually answering my question instead of giving another stock response. I have;
Reset to factory settings. *With and without redownloading all of my apps.
Recalibrated my battery
Disabled Appflash
I would appreciate it if someone at Verizon acknowledged the existence of what is basically a manufacturer defect on this phone and offered a real response instead of useless platitudes. I plan on going to a Verizon store this weekend to try and get this fixed, but it would be nice to have an official statement regarding this issue. These phones should have been recalled when this issue was discovered.

I don't understand how Verizon can charge over $500 for a phone and not recognise the issue that the Moto Z has with its battery. It's actually the last month of payment for my phone and suddenly the battery won't keep a charge and I can't use my phone for more than 1hr27mins on a 100% battery, unless it's plugged in. Either this is a tecntechn glitch they purposely issued or the batteries need to be replaced and should not be at the consumers expense. I have decided to contact the Bureau of Consumers Affairs not only regarding this phone, but noticing that they are charging my account for a Droid RAZR purchased in 2016, paid off and the Droid Z is the replacement. Apparently I owe an additional 336.00 for something I already paid for, two years ago..
Verizon needs to RECALL the Moto Z especially for those who are paying outrageous monthly contract fee's and if the issue isn't resolvable, replace the phone with a device comprablco to what the consumer is used to..Its one thing to nbover paying for substandard service but to be charged more than once for the same phone is fraud and theft.
I personally just may get a lawyer, it is not the first time we have caught verizVe charging us for items we don't have, never purchased or paid for , in full already. At 30 a month, that's a good reason for a lawyer
