Before we left for Costa Rica, I asked Verizon whether our Droid Maxx could take a Sim card from a vendor down here. I was assured that it would work.
We tried a Movistar store, but it did not pick up any network.
Is there something special I have to do?
Right now, I only have an HP tablet, running Android and can't get to the support chat
Help me please!

@Skydaver2,
Let's get you up and running! I definitely understand the importance of being able to use your phone while traveling in Costa Rica.
I do see that the Droid Maxx is a global phone and it is unlocked for you to use a local carrier's SIM card. Unfortunately, we are unable to troubleshoot the phone with a different carrier's SIM card. You will need to reach out to the local carrier for assistance.
If you want to use VZW service while in Costa Rica you will need to add Global services to your line. Visit http://vz.to/1aGvDAs for information on what you need and the rates.
