Recently, my Moto Z Force Droid finally received the long promised 8.0 Oreo update. And, like many, many others, Oreo has rendered my Z Force phone basiclly useless due to a ridiculously fast battery drain, even when the phone is sitting idle with the screen off. Just a week or so ago, before the trainwreck that is Android 8, the battery would last in standby mode for days, and would easily last an entire day of my "normal" amount of use. Now, when idle with the screen off the battery drains from 100% to 0 in less than seven hours, and if I actually try to use the phone the battery life drops to under two hours. This is unacceptable. Personally, I think it's time for Lenovo and Verizon to step up and admit they totally messed things up with this update, and either release a downgrade back to Android 7, or, if the rumors are true that the Oreo update did in fact damage these phones, replace all affected Moto Z Force Droids free of charge.

I have done the same thing, over and over=- - still no help.. phone just cuts off. And none seems to want to help at all. They just keep saying try this try that. So frustrating . Can not even use the phone unless it is hooked up to a charger. I have been a Verizon costumer for 20 years, you think they would stand behind their customers.

I have the same problem. I allegedly have an extended warranty on this- verizon tech support ( which took over an hour on text) made me do a factory reset and now it still doesn't hold a charge - maybe 2 hrs if in use, maybe less.
It comes down to they don't want me to access my warranty services that I have paid for.

My phone does the same thing. Moto force z. Have to leave it plugged in all the time. The phone halfway works now. GPS freezes, drops calls, text messages and voicemails take forever to come through. The system update caused all this. Verizon needs to stop blaming this on 3rd party apps. When people say it started happening when the system update came through, that's apparently the problem. I have many apps on my phone and it worked fine before the update and now can barely stand having the phone after the update. Verizon needs to revert the system update for these phones.

Like everyone else on this thread, I have experienced extreme battery drain since the update. Funny, my son has the exact same phone and he is experiencing the same problem. He paid off his phone this month. I pay mine off next month. Wonder if that has anything to do with it? Verizon trying to get me to buy a new phone? Meanwhile I have disabled all unnecessary apps and cleared the cache, turned off the location and still I can lose 30% of my batter just driving to work.

KDeli, having a device that discharges at a quick rate is definitely a frustrating situation. We appreciate your troubleshooting efforts to fix the batter problem. We can assure you that Verizon will not do anything to your devices to impact them in a negative way once they are paid-off. To be sure we are on the same page, tell us more, do your phones have any damage? What changed before the battery issue started?

My phone will not be paid off for 6 months and I can't do anything with it unless it is plugged in. I just unplugged it and looked at the est. battery life and it is 41 minutes. I have NOTHING running and I have done a factory reset I have no idea what to do. I am so disappointed in my phone.

Did you restore your phone after doing the factory reset? If you did, please try doing the factory reset again and do not back up the phone right away. Test the device as if it was new, at least for a day and share your results with us.

snhardy,
I completely understand the frustration of a shortened battery life, this can be very debilitating. We want to take all steps try and address this concern. When was your device updated to the recent software, and have you received any updates since then? What percentage are you seeing the device lose power at?

Verizon,
I did the legwork...and it was very easy. I called Motorola, they said the phone was out of warranty. It would cost 175.00 to get it fixed without a guarantee that it wouldnt happem again. MOTOROLA KNOWS THERE IS AN ISSUE AND ARE NOT INTERESTED IN FIXING THIS. Please quit giving these poor people generjc answers.
Neither Verizon or Moto will help us. Just say it.
Another brand and carrier are in my future.

We never like you to feel like there is no help at all, snhardy. Battery performance is crucial, and can be quite frustrating when the battery is not behaving as it should. So, I feel your pain. Have you attempted to boot the device into safe mode to see if the battery performance improves? How long will a fully charged battery last you since the latest update?

Same here I can be at 75% on a phone call and it powers down, will not turn back on (shows 0%) , plug it in and it will be at 60ish % in a few minutes and power on....I basically have a cord phone now
It really hates the camera also

Yup...same here. This is my 3rd Moto z Droid in less than 2 years...each one exchanged after an update made my phone unuseable. And yet, it takes months for them to acknowledge (if then)that the problem is the update, not the user or phone. They offered to replace it a 4th time but theres no reason to believe this will improve, so i finally got a z2 force yesterday. Didn't transfer my game progress like it has in the past but at least I can use it, including the camera, without having to be pugged in!

sky123, We're sorry to hear about the software update causing your phone to shut off, we're here to help. Since the update have you completed a factory data reset on the phone?

I have not, the only thing that helps my battery life is the original Tumi external battery. I am hesitant to do a factory reset because it is a pain to get all of my apps downloaded and placed where I had them before.

Factory reset changed nothing...
Is there anyone having issues with a Moto z2 or z play? Seems like it is just the original Moto z

Mine is paid off next month as well, sure does make you wonder if that is what they do. Seriously thinking about taking my business some where else. Crazy paying every month for a phone that does not work. 800.00 -- crazy !
