Recently, my Moto Z Force Droid finally received the long promised 8.0 Oreo update. And, like many, many others, Oreo has rendered my Z Force phone basiclly useless due to a ridiculously fast battery drain, even when the phone is sitting idle with the screen off. Just a week or so ago, before the trainwreck that is Android 8, the battery would last in standby mode for days, and would easily last an entire day of my "normal" amount of use. Now, when idle with the screen off the battery drains from 100% to 0 in less than seven hours, and if I actually try to use the phone the battery life drops to under two hours. This is unacceptable. Personally, I think it's time for Lenovo and Verizon to step up and admit they totally messed things up with this update, and either release a downgrade back to Android 7, or, if the rumors are true that the Oreo update did in fact damage these phones, replace all affected Moto Z Force Droids free of charge.

I don't think another phone will help. I have looked at this for all the top smart phones. They are all reporting issues. Saw same the of posts on T-Mobile today about the Ssmsung thinking I might switch to a 9+

I am having the exact same issue . I finally had enough after this week of terrible battery and random shutting down at 60% battery. I discovered this thread while looking for an answer (if there was one) as to why my phone isn't working anymore.
This is disappointing and aggravating .
Is there any way to go back to the old operating system before the update?

DIGMYSHOVEL, I appreciate all your time in your attempt to resolve this battery drain concern after the 8.0 Oreo update. Having a phone that doesn't even last an hour is not an experience I want you to just deal with. I don't want you to feel forced into a new phone or ever consider losing you as a customer of 17+ years. I apologize for the loss of your father and want to work with you so I can help retain your business. I can imagine these last few weeks have been difficult for you.
I have sent you a Direct Message in your inbox and look forward to hearing from you soon so we can work out some type of resolution. You will also receive an email due to the Direct Message as well. Thank you.

Seriously? Really, there's no point. You now have a newer working phone. I thought it was funny when I saw the trade-in value for this phone is now $59. I'll keep the new one with all my Moto mods or I'll sell them as a bundle.

This is a bit ridiculous and I feel that I have been deceived by Verizon and pressured to invest more money in a a new device or change carriers. These are real costs to me. I haven't paid my bill since I couldn't use my phone(a month ago) but they're letting me keep it for now. I would love to know more about this. I have spent work hours dealing with this issue as my cell phone is my main line of communication.

I too am having the same problem. Right after the Oreo update my phone just started shutting off. It's now to the point where it doesn't work unless plugged into charger. I have contacted Motorola who tried to help me resolve the battery issue. When nothing worked they offered to replace my phone for $150. The $800 phone I just got finished paying off and have only had a year and a half! I'm pretty angry and feel that my phone should be replaced absolutely free of charge. Someone is to blame for this and they should take responsibility, but who am I kidding. Everything is all about money. They want you to have to replace your phone. There's no money in a product that will last. I'm done with Verizon (whom I'm been a customer of for a long time) and Motorola unless they send me a phone that works.

Your satisfaction is important to us and we want to help you stay by offering you a great device experience. Are you suing the original charger with the device? Have you tested the device in Safe Mode with the instructions found at https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-205258/ or gone as far as completing a factory reset? Yale_VZW

I was contacted yesterday by Verizon with an offer of replacement for $75 as I am uninsured and out of warranty, after almost 2 months from the update of death I was ready to give in the phone constantly on the charger eventually ended my turbo chargers life also, I have been on an auxiliary battery pack for 3weeks. New phone will be here tomorrow and will report on the battery life. This is not a fix to the issue in my mind I still had to pay for thier mistake and don't plan on dropping the subject

I think a lot of people have gone far beyond the generic "unplug the device for 30 seconds" process that why their fed up. They bought a great device and sadly there will most likely be no other like it ever

Same problem here, this is ridiculous.
If I could post screen shots, I'd show how apps etc account for 0% or my battery drain since last charge, which was an hour ago.
These tips you are providing (factory reset, battery reset) have helped nobody. Admit there's a problem, everyone since this update with these phones are having it. Stop trying to pass the buck and let's fix the problem. Don't blame Google, don't blame everyone else, resolve it. Move the issue up higher in the food chain than you and your book of canned responses that help nobody.

Same problem here as everyone else. Having to carry a external battery around with me now to keep phone charged. Verizon, what are you doing about this? You pushed Oreo on us. It rendered my phone basically useless. And yes, it just shut down on me with something like 40% power showing on my battery level. Still paying for the dang phone and it is barely 1.5 years old. Anyone solved this short of buying a new phone? Yes, I've done the safe mode and the factory resets like the rest of you. What a waste of time!!!

GiantsFan888, we are sorry to see that your phone is having battery issues after the Android Oreo update. It can definitely be an inconvenience to have to carry an extra battery pack to charge the phone during the day. It is not normal for your phone to power OFF at 40% and would love to take a closer look at your device to determine what is going on. Just to be sure we are on the same page, tell us more, does your phone have any damage? What are you doing with your phone when it turns OFF? We appreciate your efforts to troubleshoot the phone on your own.

No damage. My phone is very clean and in a good rubber case. It happens when I start up the camera app to take a picture. It also happens when I get a txt and I begin to reply. Sometimes when I am reading an email or replying like I am doing now. I know I have to plug in when it hit around 45% battery remaining. Often if I don't plug in or can't because I don't have my external battery with me or have a plug in the car, 40% can drop down to 10% in a matter of minutes if I am not using my phone. I set my phone in the passenger seat when I am driving so many times when I get to my destination when I look at my phone again it will wake up and then die quickly. When I got into the car to drive I would see that I had 50% power. After maybe a 30 min drive it is dead. It is ridiculous for me to be carrying a huge external battery everywhere I go. Something in Oreo is burning up power that Nougat did not do. I've tries all the reset options. Safe mode is not something that works for me. I have to use my phone for work 2FA authentication to get into the apps we use at Chico State where I work. I am the information security officer for the campus so I know a lot about cell phones and IT/technology overall. There is something very wrong with this Oreo release on my phone. Called customer service and they won't let me out of my final 5 payments on my phone. So unless I want to spend extra $ to buy out a messed up phone to move to another device, I'm screwed for the next 5 months. Been with Verizon for over 10 years with 6 phones on a family plan. Looking to leave when the last of our phones are paid off unless this issue gets resolved soon.

How is it that everyones complaints are near identical and yet unless some one threatens to leave Verizon they don't care I've been with Verizon for a long while before converting my number to a business line I might be to busy to jump through hoops to get our phones fixed but if Verizon could at least admit there is a problem and this is how we can help would be the way a company that truly values their customers regardless of there loyalty

Hear hear! I have a job, a family and I don't have time or money when there
is no actual public solution and when you speak with them privately they
are eager to replace if your phone is on warranty. Why not just release a
patch update?

40% would be great at this point.
Yesterday I dared take mine off the charger for a few minutes and it shut itself down at 91%.
Restart shows dead battery but magically it's back up to 70+% in minutes.
Why have I not gotten a response to having the same issue? Same phone, no damage, and happened after the same update that was forced on everyone. I don't want to buy a new phone as this one is perfectly functional and battery lasted me all day before this update.
It does seem oddly suspicious the number of people whose phones are just paid for or just about paid for (mine included) when these "issues" suddenly started happening to everyone. Sounds very apple-ish to me.

TRAJEH98, I am truly sorry to learn about your battery problems. We understand how important it is to have a lasting battery life on our phones. I know this thread is a useful resource to review troubleshooting steps to pinpoint if it the issue is completely software driven. With that said, have you completed any troubleshooting on the Z Force? What steps have you completed? Has there been any physical or liquid damage on your device?

Yes I've done the steps stated to everyone previously, reset, battery reset etc and nothing has changed. I'm using the original charger when at home, obviously not when I have to carry around a portable though. No damage to the phone.
