Recently, my Moto Z Force Droid finally received the long promised 8.0 Oreo update. And, like many, many others, Oreo has rendered my Z Force phone basiclly useless due to a ridiculously fast battery drain, even when the phone is sitting idle with the screen off. Just a week or so ago, before the trainwreck that is Android 8, the battery would last in standby mode for days, and would easily last an entire day of my "normal" amount of use. Now, when idle with the screen off the battery drains from 100% to 0 in less than seven hours, and if I actually try to use the phone the battery life drops to under two hours. This is unacceptable. Personally, I think it's time for Lenovo and Verizon to step up and admit they totally messed things up with this update, and either release a downgrade back to Android 7, or, if the rumors are true that the Oreo update did in fact damage these phones, replace all affected Moto Z Force Droids free of charge.

Yep, we have the same problem we even had to open insurance claim and had the battery replaced. There was no change. Oreo has rendered phones useless for our drivers. The phone would shut off at 30 plus percent when using the camera or taking a video. And when powered on battery would be at 15% and the phones are getting extremely hot

Well I finally broke down and bought a new phone. Got the whole, "I disagree, it's likely your battery" bull**** from the vz rep and get this if I did send my phone in because of the battery I would get a certified pre-owned phone that may or MAY NOT already have the Oreo update! Are you kidding me?? If it doesn't then if I updated it my new used phone would be screwed up, WTH!! I'm in to join a class action against Motorola if anyone finds out what we need to do

I've had my replacement phone since 9/11 and am quite happy with it. This replacement has better battery life than I had prior to the update. If you're still paying on your phone, call *611 and get it taken care of. If you're not paying and have the protection plan, then either keep going on being mad and hope something changes or pay the $150 and get a replacement. Maybe they'll get tired of the reports that they've pushed a destructive update like Apple did.

I commented earlier on this thread, here's my update. After chatting for an hour and a half and getting nowhere with "customer support," I gave up on my Moto Z Force and it's battery. The battery got worse. Without the Tumi external battery the phone would die within an hour of being unplugged with ZERO usage.
So I switched back over to my Moto Z Play that I had changed from because of a slight water issue that rendered the camera nonfunctional. I hadn't used the Moto Z Play since March so when I turned it on I got the notification to update to the latest Oreo update. I set my reminder a week away each time it comes on. My Moto Z Play and the Tumi external battery will now last the entire day, the external battery usually dies in the late afternoon and the phone is still about 60% battery when I plug it in at night when I go to bed. I refuse to update to the Oreo operating system. But now I have to use a phone that the camera and light do not work on. I thought I would just keep the force around to take pictures, but after about two days of carrying around and trying to take a picture at 10 am and it being dead I quit carrying it.
So frustrating the no one has done anything to fix the issue!

Turn off updates and notifications of updates in:
settings>apps & notifications>notifications>Motorola notifications
App info (click show system in advanced) and disable Motorola notifications app and Motorola Checkin
Under Motorola update services, disable background data

I started to follow your instructions on your post but cannot find a couple of the items. I did not see Motorola Checkin or Could not find Motorola update services listed. No problem finding the notifications.
Can you point me in the right direction. Interested to see if this works.

In settings>app info the are 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner. Press the dots and show system. You should see those in the list after you've done that. I've also cleared the memory cache in Motorola Update Services by tapping on the Storage heading and then Force Stop. I don't get the notification about the update anymore.

Mine was out of warranty and no insurance, I held out 2 months with the exact same issues. Today is the 1st day with the replacement that was sent and it seems ok. Alan from Verizon split the cost so I had to pay $75 which is still bullshit but I'm sort of out of options. I kept all the paperwork and emails just incain this goes farther I would like my $75 back

Well, my company has WiFi and i tend to connect to it because I email pictures to my work email and to coworkers. I haven't taken any updates since receiving my replacement phone. Before I used the company WiFi, my phone would last 2 whole days with moderate use.
Yesterday, i began using the company WiFi and noticed my phone was toasty all day and are through battery enough that I had to charge it, last night. I turned the WiFi on after a couple hours at work today and my phone immediately got toasty again and began gobbling the battery. I allowed it to drop 10%, after about an hour. I turned off WiFi and my phone immediately got cool to the touch. All day's use at work and I'm at 77%, from about 2am to 3:45pm.
There's still something going on with the WiFi radio from the July Android update..

The same thing had happened with mine. I'll have 53% battery and two seconds later my phone shuts off and says I have zero battery. It gets warm when charging. It only charges to 80% or so after being plugged in all night. When in use the battery lasts for an hour and a half or so. I swear they send viruses to phones when they are about two years old.

Add me to the list of a useless brick unless plugged in. Mine will even shut down with more than 80% battery life. What's being done about this. I'm not spending another $600-$700.

I give up and am probably doing what they had hoped I would do all along. I've gone ahead and ordered a MotoZ3 and will be trading the replacement device they sent me a week ago in for $100 toward it. I have spent too much in Moto mods and want to keep them active for a little while and a new phone seems to be the solution.

Any resolution on this issue, I can't get through all of the posts and see if anything has been resolved because all I see is boiler plate answers from Verizon. This is an issue and is on Motorola forums also caused by the last release. My phone used to work for almost two days, now the battery last less than 8 hours, what is going on?

How are you going to assist me Imanualc? If you've got the answer to this problem, why haven't you helped a the other people who have come here looking for a solution only to be placated and patronized and given useless advice over and over by a support staff that doesn't have a clue what to do about the problem and obviously doesn't comprehend the posts owners of these devices are posting. No matter what any of us have said in out attempts to reach out to you, you keep posting the same canned, empty replies.
Not a single individual has had the problem with the battery draining very fast since the last update resolved following ANY of the steps you keep suggesting. Do you not comprehend this fact? Do you have the ability to understand what is being said to you by those who have the same, unresolved complaint?
So, no Imanualc, you can't help me because you don't know what the problem is any more than any of do.
Worthless, useless, mouth breathers that do nothing but follow a script and aren't able to use their brains to help solve the problem instead of being part of it.

i agree. I have a z2force and I am about to ship my third phone back because it is dead in the water. I have tried all the tricks and methods Verizon reps and others have suggested. it will not come back on. the refurbished phones I am getting are experiencing the same problems that took out the original. this is frustrating and interrupts critical communication. I have to put my sim card in the older phone and use it until the new one comes in, only to get it set up and now in two weeks it has repeatedly shut itself down and now won't start. when you go to the latest and greatest and it doesn't work, you wonder if maybe it's time to make a major change. in store support is non-existent....they say they are not technical. if the only solution is to keep getting more phones with the same problem with no hope of fixing the problem, maybe at&t is starting to look like a possible solution. I've had this account for over a decade but the support is not there.
PLEASE FIX THE PROBLEMS !

nomadpeo,
I'm sorry about the issues you're experiencing with your Z2 Force and the experience you had at our store location. I don't want this to be the reason you think about changing carriers. We value your 10 plus years of loyalty and it's important we get these device issues fixed right away. I hope by the end of this interaction, we restore your faith in us.
You mentioned your phone is being replaced and you will receive your replacement phone soon. Is this correct? If so, I feel confident the replacement phone will resolve these concerns. How does this sound?

has any one tried recording a video with 100% battery and then turning the torch on.
i have ....
spoiler alert
the phone has a meltdown and powers off and after powering on battery drops down to to near 78 % then 50 if you are stubborn and try to record the video again in the dark
you know acting like a phone normally acts after being on a charger . nothing unusual but you know still never get a response on whats going on right. a single. "hey so we think we know where the problem lays and here's a possible solution"

HyperionLogisticsLLC, I am very sorry to hear about the issues you are having with the battery life of your Motorola Z Force Droid device. I will be more than happy to go through some steps to make sure that any battery related issues are resolved. How long was the video that you recorded with the flashlight on? Can you describe the "meltdown" you mentioned? How long have you been noticing battery related issues such as this one?
