Recently, my Moto Z Force Droid finally received the long promised 8.0 Oreo update. And, like many, many others, Oreo has rendered my Z Force phone basiclly useless due to a ridiculously fast battery drain, even when the phone is sitting idle with the screen off. Just a week or so ago, before the trainwreck that is Android 8, the battery would last in standby mode for days, and would easily last an entire day of my "normal" amount of use. Now, when idle with the screen off the battery drains from 100% to 0 in less than seven hours, and if I actually try to use the phone the battery life drops to under two hours. This is unacceptable. Personally, I think it's time for Lenovo and Verizon to step up and admit they totally messed things up with this update, and either release a downgrade back to Android 7, or, if the rumors are true that the Oreo update did in fact damage these phones, replace all affected Moto Z Force Droids free of charge.

Well customer support the videos vary from 40 seconds without flash on turn the flash on and at the 43rd or 44th second mark the phone goes black when you turn it on and it starts after loading the homescreen for 3 minutes not the boot logo but the homescreen. I go to see what happened and if the video saved and it did but I continue to record and let's call it 5 seconds into it I manage to open the torch icon touch it and "blip" out like a three balled tomcat. So I guess. You can say that the second the flashlight is on whilst the camera is recording it shuts off. Though the boot time stays the same the loading of the home screen varies but you already knew that.....
And yes I would like some assistance in resolving my battery and brick for a phone. Please tell me is it the same as restarting a wireless router, or a game cartridge. Pullout wipe and blow like a harmonica?
But on a lighter note one of our drivers called Verizon technical and while it seemed the gentleman tried helping with the issue it also seemed like he was telling us.. "listen we were told to tell you the answer to this problem is turning the phone off..... And leaving it like that"
So now we all have bricks!! And this is where I'm going to leave this comment until some entity business or person figures out their mistake and a better solution

My Motorola Z Force WAS a great phone until you updated my software to Oreo. Now my battery last less than 2 hours .. It's SHADY!! Trying to force me to buy a new phone ... This phone is paid off and works great except the battery life.. I've already tried all recommended protocols.. It's the new software update that caused this. Please get a patch out soon!!!

I have had issues with my battery since the previous update I believe, the same as everyone is compla about now. With Oreo update at first I was okay. My Moto Z went dead a few days ago and when it was powered up I had two more problems...NO WIFI AND NO BLUETOOTH, with a constant message popping up saying Bluetooth app has stopped working. I spent a long time chatting through the tech coach including backup and a hard reboot to no avail. My data use of course is huge...in one day I used almost 26% of 12GB. The only recommendation I could get was get a replacement phone...there is no fix! Itโs a flaw in the update since so many have the same issue. Verizon needs to step up and fix this...there must be some way to roll back the update. This is so wrong!

MARORL9,
We understand the importance of having a reliable device at all times. Software updates are released through the manufacturer to cellular providers. Although there is not a way to undo a software update, you can certainly reach out to the manufacturer so they are aware of this issue.

Hey Verizon Support, stop saying you're sorry because you're obviously not. And stop with the infuriating empathetic replies telling everyone that you know how important it is for this and that and blah, blah, blah. Do something different, be honest and admit there is no solution and you screwed up. Take responsibility for your actions. But, since you won't, here's what I propose to everyone who has been affected by this and is fed up with the lies and runaround.
The continued unwillingness by Lenovo/Motorola, Verizon, etc. to acknowledge this issue as widespread and unable to be solved by any of the steps they have suggested serves as proof they are not going to do anything to make it right for the thousands and perhaps hundreds of thousands of devices affected by this issue. It further proves they are not going to do anything about it until it threatens to hurt them financially.
A class action suit could take months if not years to accomplish and will not provide any real satisfaction.
What needs to happen is for this issue to be brought to the attention of the media outlets that focus on cell phones and mobile technology. Online media sources such as, Engadget, cnet, PC MAG, Wired, GSM Arena, Tom's Guide, Tech Radar, and many others need to be contacted and made aware of how the companies responsible are choosing to handle the situation. Once their negligent behavior and unwillingness to even acknowledge, let alone accept responsibility for the problem starts getting widespread coverage, they will start seeing a rapid decrease in sales which will force them to publicly acknowledge the issue and create a fix.
Start contacting every media source on the planet to make them aware of these forum threads that are 17 pages long here and 27 pages long on the lenovo site and counting.

They'll all be interested in this because all of them wrote articles about the amazing battery life of these devices when they came out. For Motorola to push an update that killed the very thing that set these phones apart and then refuse to take responsibility or even acknowledge the issue is something all of them will be interested in.
You had ample time to do something about this Verizon and Motorola but instead of stepping up, you decided to be unethical and ignore the thousands of people who reached out to you for help and that's just not acceptable.
It's time for you to be exposed for the crooks you really are.

I agree, I'm tired of the same lines that obviously come out of a handbook since they repeat the same thing over and over. Has ANYONE had any success with the proposed "fixes"? I'm being told I need to do it again, then report back. I'm sure the second time will make it like new again.....

TRAJEH98, it hurts to hear you feel this way. I see that we did send you a private message earlier from Ryan. Another colleague did ask some troubleshooting questions that we'd like to review to make sure that we have all the details. Do you still use the original charger? Do you make sure to close apps when not in use? Can you check out this link and let us know how it works over the next couple days? http://spr.ly/6584DN9mr.

Same crap response.....it's not the charger, it's the update that destroyed the phone, how can Verizon respond over and over with the same junk.

Once again, yes, original charger, except I have to use my matco (a reliable tool company) portable charger pretty much constantly because of the battery draining so fast.
Yes I spoke with Ryan, and he said I need to, again, go through a factory reset, and don't load my apps for a while. The problem is, I don't have all the time needed to go through that stuff right now, and it didn't work before when I tried so I'm not real hopeful on it doing any goodthistime, but I was told this was the "next step" in diagnosing this problem.
Again I ask, have these steps resolved ANYONES problems that have this issue? This seems like the canned answers like windows 95 "reboot and reload" when it goes corrupt. As consumers we shouldn't have to be burdened with this and should get some sort of resolution. I understand why you guys are saying to remove apps etc. but in my case at least, nothing new was added since the update, it WAS the update that caused it but now I need to go through and "prove" that I didn't cause it, when we have how many pages of people complaining of the same things. What are the chances we are all running the same apps? I like cooking and competive shooting, so those are the apps I have, anyone else? I doubt it. But the one common piece of software we are ALL running....... The update forced down our throats.

Both my wife and I have experienced this same problem. I will lose close to25% battery while driving to work (25min) while it's in my backpack. Also on a number of occasions I pick up the phone with 30 or so % and it immediately powers off and shows me the yellow triangle. Verizon is absolutely no help, I've read the threads and despite the 175 plus post they claim they haven't had an issue.. I guess they don't use the same board to respond. Considering a Sony phone unlocked with a different Network to help resolve this moving forward. My note had serious issues starting ateound it's 2yr old bday on Verizon as well. Best part is I got device on a 50% off promotion when I called to payoff device I was told that I totally could pay it off early at FULL PRICE!! Makes me want to go back to when I was young and had no Hassel metro PCS..

Having the same problem. It causes me endless frustration at work where my phone is a necessity. I have tried all of the steps listed in various forum posts to no avail. Seems very strange that as I am just about to pay off my device it suddenly dies. I have started the conversation with my lawyers about filing a class action lawsuit. I have never paid $800 for a device of any type and had it bricked within two years. Seems like some collusion and skulduggery is going on here. I will be leaving verizon once I have paid off my child's phone.

Verizon to Lenovo
Verizon: We think our tactics are working...
Lenovo: How so? You're losing customers!
Verizon: Well by using a carefully formulated algorithm and and using the highest caliber of customer support reps to implemnt our latest solution...
Lenovo: What the unplug the modem for 30s and plug it back in solution, we don't think that it applies to this specific situation!
Verizon: ..... As we were saying before being rudely interrupted, the Moto z forces will no longer be a problem to us. You may have built a decent phone that is virtually indestructible and has the capability of replacing several products in a customers day to day life. But the fact of the matter is it they are no longer reliable. Us keeping those suckers in the dark is forcing them to BUY other phones and we get to keep these magnificent devices for ourselves.
Lenovo:.... ....... ..... We no longer want to be apart of youre ridiculous scheme to boost your sales of Apple and Samsung products. We may not be losing any thing or gaining but you are sick....
Verizon:

fwiw, I went into my local Verizon store on Monday and they were able to get me onto the insurance plan and I immediately requested a replacement phone. The rep said something about a program going on now that a customer can put a phone back on insurance so for the $13 I did it. They didn't hassle me about it and the whole process went smoothly like maybe they knew something about the issue. Hmmm. Replacement phone showed up yesterday and I spent all night activating the sim/phone (they sent me a new sim card) and reloading all my apps. Charged my replacement phone overnight using the same charger (not the motorola fast charger) I used with nougat and marshmallow to 100% and so far it is down to 94% after 2+ hours unplugged. The old phone would be dead by now so I am hopeful a clean Oreo on a factory refurb phone with (I hope) a new battery will work until I pay off the remaining payments on my agreement. I believe the Oreo update cycled my battery until it died (like what Apple is dealing with). If you are able to get onto the insurance plan, you could do what I did. I was told the battery issue is a "warranty-able" item under the 1 year warranty of the phone and my refurb is now reset with a new 1 year warranty period. I will decide to keep or not the insurance plan later. I will let this group know how my situation plays out. It still cost me money but a lot less than buying another phone. Really still thinking about life after Verizon/Motorola options. What a pain. Grrr.

WiFi has been on since last night and I also turned on location mid morning. I'm at 66% power and coming up to 10 hours since I unplugged from my charger. It has not warmed up which my old phone got hot often for no apparent reason. I'll pay close attention to the heat problem and report back.
