Hello paula.hines8,
Getting updates from the manufacturer of your phone is something we all look forward to. I'd love to assist you. However, we don't have information on when this will be available. You can stay in the loop here: http://spr.ly/6584DaQyq;

Motorola's website said for almost an entire year, that Moto Z2 Play Verizon phones would be upgraded to Android 8 (Oreo) "pending partner support." Now the Motorola website says Moto Z2 Play Verizon will be upgraded to Android 9 (Pie) "pending partner support." Yet we still haven't received the Android 8 (Oreo) upgrade yet. What gives Verizon? Why is it that so many other phones, both Motorola and other brands, have already received this update, yet the Moto Z2 Play still has not? Are we going to be upgraded straight from Android 7 to Android 9 now? If you are the partner, where is your support on this? The lack of replies to several posts in this community, and the "canned" copy-and-paste Customer Service responses, speak a lot to how Verizon is treating its customers. I have been a loyal supporter of this company but a lack of action has made me think about switching to another carrier that will keep up with the phone upgrades in a much more timely manner.

There are more partners than Verizon Wireless involved in the process for a system update.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

EDDYHJR71, we certainly don’t want to see you go and appreciate your business. At this time we do not have information regarding the software update for the Moto Z2 Play. If there will be an update you will find the information here http://spr.ly/6587DIWRJ

I'm tending to agree with EDDYHJR71. This isn't the first time I've seen Android roll out updates & Verizon take their time for a certain model of phone. If I remember correctly, my phone ended up with NO updated OS & I had to upgrade my phones. What great customer support that is!! I JUST upgraded to this phone 9 months ago!! I've been with this company for almost 20 years maybe it's time to go elsewhere.

Yet numerous other Moto models with the exact same OS have been upgraded months ago. Again, unacceptable response.

This is the thing that REALLY BOTHERS ME !! I go to your link & check for the latest software available for my device & find out that the ONLY Moto z that HAS NOT been upgraded to Android 8 is the z2 play!! ALL other models have been upgraded including the z3, of course!! I believe that it's really the ONLY moto product NOT upgraded!! If I looked & the newest phones were the only ones I wouldn't be so ANGRY but it's literally EVERY phone but mine that's been upgraded!! This is why I may have a new provider in several days!! Can't believe this!

well - besides the OS update - the patch level for z2 play is April of this year - and here it is September. Does VZW only provide security updates via OS updates? I believe Google releases Android security updates separate from OS, so how hard is it to acquire the security patches from Google and apply to phones? Or is security another case of "we get it from Motorola and they have them 'pending partner support.'"?

Ok, so I copied this from YOUR LINK; you see the ONLY Moto phone not updated yet?? Yes, that's right the z2 play!! I've contacted Motorola & they said it was a "developer" issue. So I contacted the "developer", Google. Of course, they weren't too happy & they said to contact my "carrier". I told them the circle that I was getting ready to start going through & my posts DISAPPEARED!! So I'm back to this. So, "developer" says it's "carrier" issue & manufacturer says it's "developer" issue. I'm not going to win this one. This is a 9 month old phone & I shouldn't have to be going through this.

Having the newest update for your device is important, paula.hines8. Updates to the device are developed by the manufacturer of the device then given to carriers to send out. We have no exact timeframe on when you will be receiving the update.

No, PedroM; you didn't read any of that did you? It's not really about the newest update at this point but why I have the ONLY Moto phone that doesn't?? New Moto z2 plays have Oreo; ALL other Moto products have been updated to Oreo. So the manufacturer has the newest update on the device & ALL other devices except my 9 month old Moto z2 play. So, just because it's on new z2 plays doesn't mean they have the upgrade pushed to you yet or it would be on your software list that I copied. Like I already stated, manufacturer said it was developer issue who said it was carrier issue. It's a vicious blame game!! I want no part of it anymore; give me a real answer & fix this issue!!

Thank you for clearing that up Paula, and great question! By any chance have you already tried to do a software update through the computer instead? If not then when you have a moment please click on the following link that will show you how to follow these steps using your computer to help you get the new Oreo update in your device, and help you get this corrected once, and for all. https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-116950/
Also, we wanted to make sure that you're aware of our great rewards program. Verizon Up allows you to gain rewards for paying your bill such as gift cards, sporting event tickets, and even concert tickets. You can even get discounts for local businesses in your area. You can get more details by clicking on the following link: m.vzw.com/m/UpSocial .

So I tried this just as you have explained...downloaded the software updater, ran through the prompts...it says my Moto Z2 Play is up to date.. but it's still 7.1.1 Nougat! I tapped the "check for system update" prompt in Settings and it says "Your device is up-to-date - Android version: 7.1.1." So this response does NOT solve the issue of upgrading a Moto Z2 Play to Android 8 Oreo.
What next???

Our goal is not to make this a frustrating situation, paula.hines8, we want to make sure that you get the correct information regarding the software update on your devices. Allow us to be honest with you, it will be up to the manufacture to decide on when they will stop supporting a certain phone model, in this case the Moto Z2 Play. Keep in mind that we only provide the service to your mobile devices and the manufacturer, along with Google will decide on which devices get the next software update. We will recommend that you contact Motorola, at 1-800-734-5870, to get more information on your device and see if they will continue to support future software updates. My wife recently had to upgrade her device since it stopped receiving support from the manufacture. Let us know if this information helps.

VictorC, I appreciate your attempt at an honest answer, but you missed Paula's point that even the new Moto Z2 Plays from Verizon are upgraded to Oreo, while we, Verizon's loyal customers, are still being ignored and told to relax, your phone will be upgraded and/or patched whenever someone gets around to it.
Not acceptable over a year since Oreo was released, and now Pie is almost here. What I expect and probably the rest want, is for this question/thread to be elevated to a level where either we get a real answer or we get the upgrade for our phones.

Rest assured we have taken the necessary steps and submitted a request to the appropriate team regarding this update. They are in contact with the manufacturer and are the ones that handle the inquiries about software updates. We cannot confirm when or if the update will be available since it has to be tested and approved before it is officially released.

OMG, y'all just don't get it!!! Still with the false answers!! Motorola has Oreo on the z2 play IN YOUR STORE!!! Their site says "waiting on third party vendor" which is normally the carrier, in this case- YOU!!! Of course you won't confirm "when or if" because then you will be held to something. Let's look at some facts: 1- My version of the Moto z2 play is the ONLY Moto product NOT UPGRADED to Oreo that's capable. 2- Moto z2 play in stores NOW have Oreo. 3- This conversation started 2 MONTHS AGO!! 4- NOBODY has ELEVATED this complaint in 2 MONTHS!! 5- Motorola said it was a developer issue & to contact them. 6- Google said it was a carrier issue & to contact YOU!! 7- Verizon Wireless Customer Support hasn't done ANYTHING for 2 MONTHS on this ISSUE for at least 3 CUSTOMERS!!!

hipaula8, receiving different answers for one inquiry would have me frustrated as well. I will make sure we submit feedback for improvement on this customer experience with the Oreo software update. At this time we do not have any specific timeline when the update will be available to the Moto Z2. This is something we have no control over and is released by the manufacturer. I have supplied a link to the details of this software update. Did I explain this okay? https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/android-oreo-os/
