Recently I started to see my phones volume increase on its own (e.g. No physical request by me). Happens with and without ear plugs Plugged in. I could be 1/4 volume and in a second full volume. Needless to say very startling .
i have nougat for OS.
Seems like a bad switch to me. (I avoided the word Sounds). 
Do you have quiet time or priority set for notification volume based on your location?

All the quiet time rules are OFF. This happens anytime.
