Motorola Xoom and Internet Access Abroad

I am seriouly considering purchasing a Xoom.  I know the tablet has a SIM card slot for LTE 4G upgrade. Can this SIM card slot also be used with an actual SIM card to enable me to get internet connectivity abroad. It is vital that I have internet connections (in addition to WiFi). I have been unable to get clarification on this issue. Thanks

It's a bit unknown at this point. The slot itself does 't appear to really be active so all of the capabilities are still a bit u known. There is supposed to be a software update coming soon which will enable some additional functionality.

Well, the specification given is 800/1900 CDMA EVDO Rev A, with 4G 700 MHZ LTE coming.   No mention of  any band of GSM or UTMS, so I would guess the answer is in fact "No".  The LTE SIM won't work with normal GSM (even if the physical slot is compatible, which I don't know).

The only internet you'll get in a GSM country, for now, is Wifi. Eventually, when LTE roaming exists, you'll be able to do that too. 3G GSM roaming is not possible with the current version of the Xoom.
