Motorola Z3 Keeps Shutting Down

My phone has started randomly shutting off when I reach 70% battery power. I haven't even had it a year yet. I usually have to reboot it several times or plug it in to get it to work. Not convenient when I'm on the road.

I've done all the phone checks and deleted stuff and removed apps.

Verizon wants to offer me a refurbished phone but why when I'm still paying for this one?

Simmons2, having a properly working phone is key to enjoying your services with us. I welcome the opportunity to address your device shutdown issue on your Z3. When did this issue first start? Do you currently have Adaptive Battery turned on or off under Settings>Battery>Use Adaptive Battery? Are you using an approved OEM charger for your phone whether in your home or your vehicle?

If all troubleshooting has already occurred, then we will replace the device. We serve as an intermediary between you and Motorola and as a result, we will uphold their warranty to replace the phone with the same make and model device at no additional cost to you due to a manufacturer's defect being present. This process is in place so that you don't have to send your phone in to Motorola and wait for it to be repaired or replaced. With the warranty replacement, the new Device ID simply replaces the one that was on the original Device Payment Plan as the agreement transfers over to that device.

Hello Ebony ,

I am having the exact same issue, although in addition, my phone will only stay powered on for about 4 seconds, just long enough to boot. I have tried every trouble shooting option available, even a factory data reset and nothing seems to work. I have also tried recalibrating the battery . When phone shuts off, it is at 100%.

Please help,

Mercedes

I have the same problem with Moto z3 shutting itself off randomly.  I tried rebooting in safe mode, updating software, etc.  Nothing works.  Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear that. Those issues are typically the result of a defective battery, a battery that is failing. It's probably displaying the wrong percentage all the time. It could be faulty software also, but more than likely the battery. It's probably time for a new battery (or a new phone depending on how much a battery will cost). Hope that helps.

Nobody likes having phone problems, lmcho666, especially during these challenging times. We are here to help with this particular matter, allow us to gather more information to be on the same page. How long has it been since you noticed this particular problem with the phone shutting down on its own? Did anything change with the device before this problem started (new apps or software update)? Is the phone free from damage?

I'm having the same problem. I have done a factory reset and still have the same problem. It works fine until the battery life gets down to 60%.

Jesussaves01, I am sorry to hear you are still experiencing issues after the Factory Data Reset. That is the last step in the troubleshooting process. The next option would be to explore your replacement options. Is there any physical damage?

It is beyond upsetting when a device shuts down and there is still plenty of battery left, lackgammousa. We will do all we can to help make this right. Since we will need to discuss some non-public details, we have sent you a Private Note to continue.

Mine has been doing the same thing. Happened just before the phone was two years old. Gets under 78% and shuts down. Hard to restart unless it's charging.

Is there a fix for this? I have already wiped the phone twice.

I am a consumer too and I sincerely understand your dilemma, Bmastey. You mentioned that you have wiped the phone twice. If you meant to say that you did a factory reset () twice and the issue continues, the the best option is to replace the phone as a factory reset is the ultimate troubleshooting step that can resolve the issue that you are experiencing.

You mention that this happens when the battery gets under 78% and this may be related to the battery as batteries are consumables that need to be replaced at the end of their useful life. You may consider replacing the battery and see if this resolves the issue.

A legit and to the point where I'm going to take a sledgehammer to this dang phone the constant shutting down no matter what the percent battery I have is just absolutely ridiculous. I hate hate hate this phone

Same problem. Around 70% battery or less the phone shuts off. And often it will not start back up until it is charging. Very frustrating when I am out for the day with no charger.

Same problem, usually between 40-70%. Have to plug it back in to get it to turn on. It is very random. Some days it never happens and others it happens 3-4x.

We know the importance of having a fully functioning device and we want to help in any way we can. When did you start having this problem? Does your phone have any physical or liquid damage?
