My phone sometimes does not ring when someone is calling me.

The no-ring on my Android phone is not consistent.  It does not happen to the same caller every time; it does not happen at the same time of day.  The no-ring is frustrating for me (missing the call) and the caller (forced to leave a voice message).  Once I hear about the no-ring, I've tried to call my cell from another phone and it rings!

When I see this topic in the Forum, it is "blocked".

Which phone model do you have? Do you have any "Do Not Disturb" rules for silencing the ringer for certain times of day or location?

Droid Turbo XT1254, running Android 6.0.1

I have no idea how to set (or find) the option to set "Do Not Disturb" rules for silencing the ringer for certain times of day or location. I’m willing to look, but I’m doubtful that there are any set.

The Moto app and Sound & Notification under Settings both have some volume controls based on the location or time.

OK. I found the settings – thanks.

Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I did up the volume to max.

On some no-rings, the caller informed me that it went to voice mail immediately. Not sure if that’s significant…

You can also check the contact information for that person on your phone and see if it is set to go straight to voicemail. Open Contacts > scroll to the specific person's contact listing > select it to view > touch the hamburger menu > see if send to voicemail (or similar wording is noted).

I am not sure what a “hamburger menu” is? I don’t think my “Contacts” offers it. When I open the contact, there is typically an option to email (on the right) and an option to phone (on the left). I cannot find anything that would do what you suggest – direct call to voice mail during a time window.

I tried the phone in question last night. Called my cellphone. It worked just fine.

It’s the phone that failed to generate a ring on my phone at noon today!

Worst scenario – sometimes it works; sometimes there’s no-ringtone. I have no way to predict when it will work (or not).

The hamburger menu is also called the overflow menu and is three vertical dots or lines hence the "hamburger" name.

When I open contact, the hamburger menu gives me choice to Delete, Share,

or Place on home page.

No option to direct to voice mail or ...

Open the contact

Tap Edit (the icon at the top that looks like a pencil)

Tap the hamburger menu (the three dots in the upper right-hand corner)

All Calls to Voicemail should be the last entry

You are exactly correct. Didn't know I could do that. Thanks for the

lesson.

Btw, the contact in question did not have the "go to voicemail" checked.

That's not likely to be the cause of the no-ring.

Just experienced a no-ring.

Tested cellphone by calling from my house phone. Cellphone in my pocket. Heard 4 rings as feedback on the house phone, then went to voicemail.

Cellphone shows voice message at 14:12. No record of call in “RECENTS”

Is there anything I can do to facilitate a fix?

I really appreciate you checking into all these settings, GERPIK28. I know this is frustrating and I’d like to clarify one very important detail. When you are noticing the phone is not ringing, do you still end up seeing a missed call notification on your phone’s call history or only the notification of a new voice mail? When this happens, do you have to do anything to the phone (restart, go to a different room or location, etc) for the phone to ring properly again?

A friend tried to call me today, around noon. I never got the call – it did not ring on my cellphone (ringer and notification volumes were not changed from when “we” set them up last night). I checked with the caller and they indicated that they heard the indications of the call “ringing” and then their call went to voice mail. On my phone, I had a voice message. The call itself was not listed under “RECENT” calls. The voice message was noted as being at 12:45 today. The caller is a Verizon user as well.

When there is no-ring, there is no indication to me that it has happened (unless the caller leaves an email). I do not have to do anything different to make the phone work again.

Thank you for the additional information, GERPIK28. We want to make sure we get to the bottom of these calls. Have you noticed any patterns to the calls not coming through such as always the same person or location? Does your phone have the most up to date software in it? Anyone else in your area experiencing the same issues?

I too would like to get this no-ring resolved. It’s frustrating and has been embarrassing as well So, thanks for the persistence!

Have you noticed any patterns to the calls not coming through such as always the same person or location? I can detect no pattern at this point. It’s not the same person who’s call gets no-ring. It’s not the same location either.

Does your phone have the most up to date software in it? The latest update was applied on 1/4/2017. Android version 6.0.1 – do you want kernel, configuration, or baseband version?

Anyone else in your area experiencing the same issues? Other than a number of similar complaints on the FORUM, I’ve not known of any similar problems. We have another Verizon phone in the house – an Apple – and it’s not been a problem.

Thanks again.

GERPIK28,

We appreciate the follow up and thanks for supplying those additional details. Do you utilize any bluetooth devices? If not, please ensure bluetooth is disabled by going into Settings & Bluetooth. Also, to ensure call forwarding is not active, please dial *73. During the call you will hear a couple beeps and it will disconnect. Once this step is taken we can continue testing.

Bluetooth is (and was) disabled.

Call forwarding not too likely to be the problem. Some calls work; some

don't. Plus, I don't know how to set call forwarding anyway.

We're not giving up until your call notifications work properly. When do you recall first experiencing this issue? On your phone, please go to Settings>Advanced Calling and choose the opposite of what is currently selected to test if there is any impact with this call setting.

I’m not sure when it started to happen. I’m only aware of the problem when someone tells me they’ve called and I didn’t answer because the phone didn’t ring. It’s not the best scenario for timing when the problem appeared – sorry. I would guess that it’s been happening for several months now, but have to admit that it’s a guess.

I followed your suggested path to Advanced Calling. I now have features of “HD Voice $0” and “Enhanced address book $0”. I have no idea what that means, but they are now on

I’ll watch to see if any “no-ring” calls happen. And, I’ll let you know.

While re-reading the message to you, I realized that I had not been clear regarding the *73. That’s done too!
