Phone can't make or receive voice calls, but can make video calls?

I bought a Moto G (unsure the generation but it was a 2022 model) for my father and had it activated on the Verizon network. It worked great until a few weeks ago. Now he can't make voice calls, and when I call him voice or video, I get an "Invalid Number" error message.  However, we figured out he can make video calls to me! It's urgent that he's able to make and receive calls on this phone right away. He uses it in his home connected to wifi as he doesn't get much of a signal out there....it is currently connected to wifi, and it isn't on airplane mode. What could explain this?

The reason why that's happening is because your father's phone is attempting to make/receive regular phone calls via cellular service, which you said isn't good in his area.  The Wi-Fi calling feature would have to be turned back on, and how to do that can vary somewhat depending on the type of phone.  I'm guessing a recent software update somehow shut some stuff off.  Searching the Verizon website for "Wifi Calling" brings up a ton of links for how to do this for assorted phone models.

If your father's line is on your account, you should be able to find out the exact model of the Motorola phone by checking your My Verizon account.  A network extender for your father's home could improve his service so he doesn't have to rely on Wi-Fi constantly.  Another suggestion would be to see if any other carriers have better service there and have your father port his number to them.  There's not much sense in paying for cellular service which doesn't work.
