If you want to load the non mobile sites follow the steps below.

In the browser address type "about:debug" (without the quotes) and press enter.
Click the browser menu button in the upper right corner, then click settings.
in the settings screen click debug and then UAString. Select Desktop, and then back arrow until you are back at the browser. Now your browser will tell websites that it isn't a mobile browser.

Thanks for that hint. I got my Xoom yesterday and it was hit or miss if the browser did mobile sites or regular sites.

I received my Xoom from Verizon Wireless on 2/28/2011. I had signed up with both Motorola and Verizon Wireless for notification of availability, but it was a sales email from TigerDirect that tipped me off when the Xoom came available for them to sell.

I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Tab a while back and returned it after two days. It was a very good device in every way except for my primary requirement, which is for an eReader that will render technical books large enough for me to read them. The tables and diagrams in books on Amazon's Kindle app and Barnes & Noble's Nook app were just too small on the 7 inch screen.

Fortunately, the Xoom 10 inch screen works great and now I can tote around and read technical books on my Xoom tablet. Excellent eReader. There are probably good reasons to get an Android 3.x device rather than 2.x device if you can, but personally the 2.x Galaxy Tab worked fine for my needs.

I have downloaded a few free apps from the Android Apps market, only to uninstall them after finding major bugs. There was a compass app that looked pretty nice but was -90 off of magnetic North, so that it said that North was due West. A flashlight app that caused the Xoom to hang, and some other thing that crashed.  But I've also found several apps that work great, so results vary, and will likely improve with time.

In case you haven't read the reviews, don't buy the leather case as it sounds like a poor product. There are several other options available on Amazon.com.   I also recommend a capacitive stylus if you want to avoid having to wipe finger grease off the glass all the time. I got a Boxwave that works nicely and is small enough to fit in any pocket.

The Verizon/Motorola screen protectors were a disappointment. Easy enough to apply, except for the label adhesive that required solvent to remove. The plastic is so soft that the smoothing applicator that came with the protectors to remove air scrached the protector! So they scratch easily and consequently will probably need to be replaced more frequently than you would like.

Battery usage is more like a laptop than a phone. Use the Xoom anyway you like and you'll get a couple of hours of use out of it. If you want more, you'll have to manage the power more carefully. I don't want to be bothered with constantly having to refresh the screen or have it auto adujust all the time with the change in lighting, so I changed settings which require more power, and there is plenty available for moderate use. I haven't tried watching a 2 hour movie on it yet, but expect that would probably take a full charge.

Overall, I am very happy so far and would recommend this device to anyone that wants or needs the larger 10 inch screen.

Question on the screen protector, did you just remove the little label tab "remove 2nd"? The whole protector has a plastic sheet like the sticky side does. Once you smooth the air bubbles out you remove the whole protective sheet. I also use a soft towel to smooth the protector after I remove that sheet.

I also got that compass app and was wondering if my Xoom calibration was off. My Droid X has a calibration mode in the settings for the magnetic sensor, but I couldn't find one in the Xoom settings.
