Why are text messages sent from an email going to my email Inbox and not my text app?

I am sending an email from another device to my phone that I want to receive as a text - by adding the @VTEXT.com at the end of my phone number.  My Droid Turbo 2 is receiving them as an email, not as a text.  What/where is the setting that is causing this to happen?
