Verizon and Moto have worked together to remedy the issue. The fix will be included in the update due in early January.
Please note that the fix will work exclusively with pre-loaded devices. This is due to technical specifications.
So, if your app was preloaded onto your device, the fix will work for you. If you loaded the Message+ to your device, the fix won't.

We'll be happy to answer your question. We'll need a little clarification from you. Are you referring to the small red number that appears under the contact's icon when you have not read the message that was sent to you?

I have the same issue. If I uninstall the messages+ update the counter comes back. It will not show up in the new update.
By the way its the unread count on the messaging+ badge on the home screen.
Having a notification of unread messages can be frustrating, rmohney, especially when you have read all the messages already. Sometimes a message or two sneak by un noticed and the message indicator catches up to it seeing that it needs to be read. If you scroll back through all your messages, check and see if any of them show unread messages. This should clear that notification up for you in no time.

That issue is not that its stuck on a number its that with the latest update of messange+ I do not get any number at all even if I do have unread messages. I am one of those people that like to see the number of unread text messages I have. I also think it would be nice if the turbo 2 had the option to have moto display flash at time intervals i set until I dismiss the notification. I leave my phone set on a desk most of the day and think it would be nice to see any missed calls and so on without having to pick it up or wave my hand over it when I walk back into the office. That's just me and for know I have removed the latest messages+ update so I do get the number.

Hello. Like others on this post, I very much want to see the "unread badge" once again displayed (like it was before the recent update). The last I read there was a "fix" coming in early January. However, it is now January 20 and I have not yet seen an update. Is there any new status on this? Thank you.
No update here either droid 2 turbo. The most annoying thing is that if the phone restarts and a message has come in the badge is stuck at 1 until i read the message and restart the phone again.
I had hoped with the Turbo 2 that promised fixes would come as promised from Verizon or Motorola, but it seems nothing's changed. Same story as with Verizon and my last 3 Samsung phones. All hat and no cattle. Just like politicians. Sigh.....
rmohney, I too am a big fan of the led notifications and would feel the same way you do without them. Thank you for all the information. I went back through the manual for your phone to see if there was a way to set up the led lights for notifications at all and was not able to find one. I do see that there is an update pending from Motorola that should assist you with what you are looking to have your phone do with the lights. It should be out sometime in later January, and will help with pre installed applications from what I am reading. Thank you for getting back to me today, and following up with our conversation. The developers are aware of the Droid badge issue and are working with Motorola on the fix. There is nothing that can be done on your part. Once it is fixed it will be evident on your device.

Almost March 2016. No fix, no updates, no Marshmallow. I got Turbo 2 because I was frustrated with Galaxy S5 always buggy and behind on Android updates. Now this. Have to switch to third party launcher to get message counter badges? C'mon Moto, c'mon Verizon, take care of your customers!
Got Marshmallow, 30 minutes, 2 updates later and.... surprise! Still no notification badges on app icons (facebook, inbox/gmail, Outlook). Why should something so simple be so difficult? Had it on my Samsung Galaxy S, S3 and S5. No message LED either. Don't like having to pass my hand over the phone to wake it up and see if I have any missed calls or messages. Big thumbs down to the Turbo2 for not having either the badges or indicator LED's.
Badges are not used on the stock UI. The DROID Turbo 2 follows the stock Android more closely then the TouchWiz UI used by Samsung.
The DROID Turbo 2 doesn't have an LED indicator for messages as it uses the active display to alert you to notifications.

SO I have been scouring the net and my phone settings for too long. But I did find something..... Press and hold on empty space on the home screen and go to settings>keep count and enabled that. Not sure what the [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service] turned it off but my count on badges works now. Hope this helps.
Checked and mine was enabled already. Still no unread badges....sigh.....
