Wifi strength/performance on Razr M significantly reduced once updated to KitKat/4.4.2

Has anyone had any luck with restoring the WIFI capabilities on their Razr M after upgrading to Kit Kat? WIFI still technically works, but its range is significantly reduced since receiving the latest Android update. Now, the phone's WIFI is either unable (or barely able) to connect to previously established networks (b/c of weak or no signal).

Is there a patch forthcoming to resolve this? Within other discussion threads, I've read trying a factory reset might resolve the issue...?

Hi ahp103!  I want to ensure you're able to maintain a WiFi connection with your Motorola Droid RAZR M device.

Have you tried removing http://vz.to/1ktF6UW and readding http://vz.to/1ktFgvt the WiFi connection? I would also like to suggest soft resetting the device following these steps: http://vz.to/1ktFmmG.  Please let me know how this works out for you.  Thanks!

Thanks for the response, Anthony. Unfortunately, "forgetting" and then reconnecting to the desired wireless networks -- nor a soft reset -- resolved the problem.

Thanks for replying Ahp103! Let's see if any app is causing this. Try this and retest:http://bit.ly/RYkwKk If the issue persists please back up and perform a hard reset. Here's how:  http://bit.ly/Vo3Hi8

In safe mode, I repeatedly receive the "Unfortunately, Homescreen has stopped" popup message. Over and over again.

Thanks so much for following up! That's definitely out of the ordinary. Are you able to force closer the function through Settings > Apps > Manage applications > All > Clear Data and Cache

That isn't out of the ordinary. I'm having the same problem. I've soft reset, restarted, and master reset the device. Did nothing.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one experiencing the degradation of wifi signal strength since upgrading to KitKat issue -- I think. Because of feedback like this, I'm reticent to factory reset and waste the time reinstalling apps, adjusting settings, etc.

Verizon: are you working on a patch to address this issue?

I wouldn't bother, honestly they should have had this fixed during the soak test. There's no excuse for this. I've had issues with every update they do. As much as my bill is I've had it. I'm gonna call them shortly to let them know I'm switching carriers.

Gblake13 We apologize that the wifi hasn't been working properly since the update.  Does this happen with all wifi connections or just a specific one such as home or work wifi?

I'm having the same issue. It is definitely the KitKat update. It indicates reduced strength even in the same room as the router. It is NOT just an indication issue because I lose connectivity where it used to work. I'm wondering is this is one of the methods they are using to get their claimed improved battery performance....

It happens right next to the router as previously stated, and it's not just the wifi, it's also my cell service. I used to get full 4G but now I'm lucky to get 2 bars. Also as far as the battery goes seems to me to have a shorter life now, probably because of scanning constantly for wifi and service.

I can tell you that I set my wifi frequency band from auto to 5Ghz only and it would not connect to my work Cisco Airport with WEP security unless I turned off my Bluetooth. When I set it to 2.4 Ghz only it does connect with no issues to the Cisco but at home where I have two WIFI connections - I have to disable Bluetooth to connect and even then half the time when I check WIFI is off and I am on 4G. Leaving Bluetooth off in the house is not a big issue for me but I don't want to have to remember to enable it before I get in my car since my car is Bluetooth.

It didn't work for me, either.

I am sorry to learn that a factory reset did not work for you bubbasmommy! Did you uncheck box at step 3 at this http://vz.to/1gBwFr1 link? It is critical to uncheck Automatic Restore.

There are so many things wrong with my phone since this update.  Battery life is horrible- I have to charge it twice per day.  I've never had to do this, but started doing it the day after the update.  My phone gets incredibly hot when I am playing words with friends, the screen flickers on words with friends until I exit the app and come back in, the ringer button on the locked screen is gone (how is this an improvement?), my camera has a 10 second delay now, texting is no longer attractive, as they text boxes are all the same color.  I now hate my phone.

And now I have to spend all of this time complaining and fixing my phone.

Against my better judgment, I went ahead and performed two factory resets with automatic restore unselected and have found no change or improvement in the Wifi signal strength issue discussed above. Complete waste of time. Who'd have thought the KitKat update we'd been waiting for would be so destructive?

Verizon: the standard playbook for customer support isn't working. We need to know that this issue is being worked on and will be addressed shortly.

Same experience. Updated two days ago. Yesterday the battery lasted less than eight hours. Today it was at 25% by early afternoon. The phone will not automatically re-acquire my wireless network when I leave the house and the signal strength is very poor even inside the house. I used to like my phone.

Same here -- all wifi connections -- both work & home -- are now weak and unstable at best. What's frustrating is how long it took Verizon to update this phone with KitKat given how long it'd been since the last update. If a patch is forthcoming, what are the odds it'll arrive before the expiration of our 2-year contracts (which I imagine all RazrM users are close to reaching).

I just upgraded this morning and I am having the same wi-fi issues.  Low signal and unable to connect.  Please correct this problem!
