The last couple of weeks my Z3 will randomnly shut off for no reason. Usually the battery is under 40% when this happens. Then it takes a time or two of hitting the power button before I can get it to turn back on and the other day I got a reboot screen or something that popped up and I didn't know what it was.

You still haven't found the reason for the Z2 crash after the verizon update

I would be shocked if my phone automatically crashed after an update, Syber1313. This does not sound right at all. Updates are meant to improve the phone's function not make it worse. Can you tell me more about what you mean when you say it "crashed"? AmberF_VZW

For us, "shutting off" means that thephone goes dead. It must be restarted. And most often it wont! Restarting our z3 ranges from first try to give up and come back after the charger can be connected. It almost always restarts first try when charger has been connected, but otherwise it can take multiple tries to restart. During these times, the progress of the restart can vary from virtually none to gets up fully and then goes dark again within the first minute, and it's not progressive. That is to say that first blue screen never gets to the dropping in of the motorola trade marks to getting the "Hello Moto" print out to getting the voice greeting to actually getting the lock screen up before dying again... very frustrating. After fullying recharging, it seldom dies within the first 24 hours unless usage is higher than normal. This would mean that following the suggested "Factory reset" path would mean each test wopuld require two days and with over 40 external apps that's a long time of being a near useless device. And as an engineer it fails me to imagine that an app can cause a crash during the initialization process. One more point, recharging from a 34% level with TurboPower Charging takes 15 minutes to charge to 39%, another 15 minutes to reach 65%, another 15 minutes to reach 75% and 45 minutes more th reach 100%. Also the phone quits when is is not in active use like during church this past sunday.

There are no updates available and mine is shutting down again. It was doing it back un sept and it stopped after the next update was available. My phone is now experiencing the same issue and my battery is at 58%. It started after verizon pushed the latest updates. This is getting very frustrating that Verizon is not testing their software for the phone or there is a compatability issue with the verizon software. please help. My phone is not even a year old

Pollock78, I'm so sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the battery staying charged on your Moto Z3. Let's see how we can help get it working once again. When did you begin having trouble with it? Do you notice if this occurs when you are doing any specific actions, or are using any specific apps?

I've been having the same issue. Seems to happen around the 20% or lower battery mark and is random.

Murphy8260,
This is never the sentiment we want you feeling about your device. Can you describe what is happening with your device, and how long it's been going on?

You can add my Z3 to the list of those that are shutting down. It seems every time a reply is added to this issue a different customer reps replies with the same suggestions.
Yes, my phone is up to date. Yes, I have tried it in safe mode. Yes, I have tried the Motorola suggestion for charging/balancing the battery. Yes, this has been going on for 2 - 3 months. Yes, it is totally random. It shut down this morning with 87% power and the battery mod still at 100%. It has sometimes lasted down to 35% power and the battery mod at 0%. It will not restart without either waiting about 5 to 10 minutes or plugging it in for just a few seconds.

LOL! And everybody on it gets an email! Seriously the thing is jacked, you gotta turn it in, but good luck! I got insurance and got it replaced that way since the screen was damaged but even then it was a joke! What was supposed to be like a 20 fix ended up costing as much as getting it fixed without the insurance! So tell me again how this works? Oh right we just give more money to verizon. Oh wait, different companies that have nothing to do with each other, ok sure.

cbobb, keeping you connected with a working phone that doesn't break the bank is important to ensure that you have a good experience. We are here to assist. Can you elaborate on how it ended up costing more? Do you currently have a working phone?

I'm having the same issue. Shuts down randomly several times a day even though it's charged. I tried factory defaulting it and running with no extra apps installed. I tried safe mode. I did everything the techs said and it still shuts off. The Software is up to date. This is the second phone I've gotten that does the exact same thing. Is there a fix for this yet?

The most upsetting kind of issue to troubleshoot is a totally random one like this, biggsrf58. We sincerely appreciate all the steps you’ve outlined here. It’s regrettable, to say the least, that the steps didn’t resolve the issue. I’ve sent a Private Note to work with you on the next steps.

I'm a new member of this same unhappy club. My z3 started having this malfunction about a month ago. It powers down at random times, regardless of the amount of charge remaining. A few minutes ago, I attempted to take a flash photo. The phone shut itself off before I could save the photo. Maybe it will work tomorrow. Someone is depending on me to send that photo.
Evidently, the earlier z2 model had a similar issue dating back to early 2018. I am honestly amazed that these kinds of defects can persist over multiple generations of the same device. Smart phones are a mature technology. New iterations should, logically, be more reliable than their predecessors, not less. The z3 is the fifth model that I've owned over a span of several years, and this is the first time I've gotten a lemon.
