That is troubling to learn of the issues you're experiencing with your data services. What's the impacted zip code where you're having this trouble? Are you having any other service issues aside from data (voice calls, texts, etc..)? Please share further details.

Wi-Fi is data that your phone gets by connecting to signal from a nearby wireless router. In this case, you probably have a router at home that your phone is using for Wi-Fi, and once you get a short distance outside of your home, that signal will no longer be available. You'll either need to connect to another nearby source of Wi-Fi when you arrive at your destination, or you'll need to switch to using mobile data instead, which gets data from Verizon's cell towers instead of nearby routers.
On your phone, try going to Settings > Data usage and make sure that Mobile data is on. Keep in mind that if your plan with Verizon isn't the Unlimited Plan, then you'll have a limited amount of mobile data available without paying extra.
