Use the Share to email option.

Go to Gallery and find the picture, select the Share icon and you should have the choice how to share, email/text/Bluetooth/etc....haven't found a way to add a picture to an ongoing text conversation. (UPDATE: Actually this was answered in a related question. Tap the 'Plus' sign in the 'type a message' box and options will pop up)

...Just another VZW customer...trying to offer some assistance...
