There are several threads on various forums about this challenge. If your within the 1-yr warranty (I don't think the device has been out that long) then I'd suggest seeing what VZW/Moto can do. I know Moto was helping customers with the original Turbo that experienced challenges past the 1-yr warranty. My Father had the Turbo 1 and was able to get it swapped due to the cracked screen warranty. The replacement he received was defective but the 2nd replacement worked just fine. That was until he dropped it in his drink a few weeks later. Luckily he was ready for his upgrade. LOL
This is certainly concerning to hear! Are all background applications disabled prior to attempting to charge the device?
