been trying to post but this site has not been cooperating so please excuse double posts. now to the issue.
i am a loyal verizon customer. fios at home, mobile phone plans etc. purchased a xoom, full price. why have a data plan when i have fios at home and can get free wireless at work and local places. But, I would like to activate the 3/4 g when i travel. why do i have to pay an activation fee? I noticed ipad2 has no activation fee. why can,t xoom owners have a true pay as you go plan? Why can,t verizon come with a plan that helps loyal customers? Boo to activation fees........

Everyone is asking the same question, but no one gets an answer from Verizon. Common sense suggests that all tablet data pricing should be consistent. They can do what they want, but if they don't drop the fees soon I'm going with an AT&T iPad2 this year. AT&T only charges $25 for 2GB of data on the iPad, why should I pay Verizon $55 for 1GB? ($35 activation + $20 data)

Ipad 2 has a promo right now for free activation. Xoom doesn't that is why. The reason for the activation fee is when you activate and get a new MTN the only idea I can think of is to simply activate 1 time and just suspend without billing when your not travelling. AT&T and all the other carriers have the exact same plans and fees we do so you will get the exact same every were else. ( Sorry if you have been trying to figure this out for a while)

Tech Bark that actifation is a one time charge your treating that as if its $25 vs $55 per month your comparison isn't very good. And fees are VZW's way of off seeting their cost would you prefer they add those cost into the plans or the cost of the devices?

MKF, most people do not use data on tablets in a continuous fashion. They have a data plan one month, but not the next, then they'll sign up again two months later. Currently, Verizon will charge $35 for *each* reactivation of a data plan. This is not done for the iPad--there is no activation fee for each reactivation of data.
Also,what "costs" is Verizon trying to recover with a $35 activation fee on an UNSUBSIDIZED Xoom? I could understand it if the buyer agrees to the contract price, but otherwise no.

AT&T does not charge the activation fee on iPads for users, whether continuous or infrequent.

That's a step in the right direction. However, if I understand the article correctly only the *first* activation fee is being waived. If you stop the data plan and start it up again a few months later, with the new activation fee be waived at that point as well?

I'm not sure but I think once you activate your tablet it stays activated. If you temporarily suspend service, you just restore service when you want, not re-activate. I beleive phones work the same way..... I know you can temporarily suspend service if you were to, for example, leave the country and not take your phone with you.... and the restore service when you return.

I reaally don't understand why vzw needs to make this as difficult as they have. Especially for people that otherwise have an account it should be as simple as logging in and toggling a setting on or off in your account. Really no different than signing up for a text messaging plan.
