Apparently if you have a mobile broadband device and use VZW access manager to connect then you can also get access to some hotshots.
Would sure be nice if we had that with xoom too.
We're paying similar data rates I think?

Yes, that is correct. You will need the VZ Access Manager to connect to the Verizon WiFi.

Verizon Wi-Fi requires a Mobile Broadband / GlobalAccess device activated on a monthly Mobile Broadband / GlobalAccess service plan. Eligible devices are as follows:
- USB Modems
- PC Cards
- ExpressCards™
- MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot
- Netbooks/Notebooks with Mobile Broadband Built-In
Supported devices subject to availability. Visit www.vzam.net to check if your device is supported. Click “Supported Devices” to view if VZAccess Manager version 7.2 or higher is available for your Mobile Broadband device.
If you are on a one or two year contract and are a post paid Mobile Broadband customer you will be able to connect to the free Verizon WiFI.

Just to clarify your information - do you mean to say that the Xoom cannot use the VZW hotspots even if I have the "postpaid" Mobile Broadband 3GB plan, because I cannot install the VZAccessManager software on my Xoom?
