I too am trying to support the USPS by sending my bills by mail - old fashioned or not. I totally agree that blaming USPS is a cop-out from Verizon. I got slapped with the late payment on my last invoice even though I also send the bill payments the next day I receive them. Verizon is the only one (from utilities to credit card payments etc.) that cannot seem be able to process the payments in time. It also seems that I'm receiving the Verizon mail statements later and later after they post online, which makes one wonder if we are intentionally being shorted out of time. This month I'll see how long it will take to get the Verizon bill. I got the next online statement email notification today.
