I hate AccuWeather.......how come customers did not have a choice or a vote to keep The Weather Channel???? AccuWeather stinks, there are no REAL stories nor do the show any weather people out in the field......this is the worst, I watch the weather channel everyday. I might just think about changing my service to someone who has The Weather Channel!!! I hate this.....ugh !

Accuweather sucks - and despite the fact they took 2 channels (local radar weather that comes paired with TWC) and only gave us a substandard one back.
Verizon does not seem to care - well I am going to move all my business back to COX when my contract is up. They just note that we are unhappy - and don't try to do anything about it.
So my 200+ money is going elsewhere - NOT because I don't like FIOS service etc.... just because they made a stupid move with one of the most important channels....
Just give us a freaking local radar station and we might be happy - BUT NOOOOO......
Accusucks it is!

Just fix the WeatherBUG! Half the time it says the weather is unavailable, especially the radar view. Why can't you get this to work?

Bring back the weather channel. The Accuweather replacement is really awful. Cablevision offers the weather channel on all packages!

There is a quite lengthy thread under programming.
It has been over 3 years.
Highly unlikely that it will come back.

THIS is the lengthy thread. One of the biggest in all of the forums. Someone need to walk into the VP of programming's office and show them.

What you don't see in this thread are the people that don't miss it and don't want to pay a penny more to have it back.
You can count me in that category.

FIOS refusese to pay for The Weather Channel which has great local forcasting ("Weather On The 8's"). Instead they have an Accu-weather channel which is too general since it's national forcasting, not local. They also have 2 weather "widgets". One is Accu-weather but is takes time to wait for the different screens to load, and the other is "The Weather Bug" which you can click through the screens, but the radar almost never works... I called to have this repaired 3 times. The first time, I got an email saying the problem was solved 2 days later - and it wasn't. The second time I got a promise from support on the phone that it would get fixed and that someone would get back to me in 24 hours. A week later I got another email saying the problem was resolved and.... It wasn't.... The third time I got a guy who could barely speak English and was nearly impossible to communicate with. I would explain the situation and/or ask questions and there would be long pauses of dead silence with no response where I'd have to ask if he was still on the line with me. When he did respond it either was non-relevant or wasn't understandable. In the end, he decided to send a signal to my box. All that did was delete all my favorite channels I had loaded! So, finally I scheduled a technician to come to my house. The day of the scheduled appointment, the technician called me and told me that there was nothing that could be done about this radar issue because it is a "glitch in the system that they are aware of" and that when they send out updates to fix these glitches that it generally makes things worse not better - and that I just had to deal with it. What kind of support is that? I feel they should either offer The Weather Channel, or fix the services they have. I AM paying for it after all... At the very least, they could have informed me that nothing could be done on the first phone call and they certainly shouldn't send out emails stating that things are "resolved" when they aren't... I'm sure to many people this all seems trivial... But FIOS isn't cheap. The least I should be able to expect is to have things work properly. PS: I was on hold for almost an hour every time I called... Customer service is awful... I think a refund is in order and I am likely going to switch back to Spectrum which offers The Weather Channel.

Where are you located?
My Accuweather channel has rotating info for lots of local areas around me.
Haven't timed it, but I get my local area at least once every 10 minutes.
I have always found the widgets to be useless.
If I want that info, I either use the equivalent app on my mobile device or log on to Internet.
Which is why Verizon dropped TWC?
They didn't see enough viewership to justify the cost.

I am in Syracuse, NY. Yes the accuweather channel has a window on the side with rotating weather info... But that doesn't change the fact that the widget radar never works, the waiting time for customer service is awful, they shouldn't claim something is "resolved" when it isn't, and I shouldn't be told to "deal with it" when something they offer and I pay for, isn't working. The fact that I have a weather app on my phone isn't relavent. What about people that don't? Sometimes I prefer a forcast that is more complete. After all I am paying for it... They should either get the service to work or get rid of it and reduce my expensive FIOS bill.

I'm in Long Island, NY. For 5 days already, radar on weatherbug comes up with the "internet connection not working" or you need to have internet service. Of course I have internet service and On demand and the channel guide works (all run over internet). Usually a weather map is blank 9 out of 10 times, but you get nothing. As sated, weather channel had the live radar which worked well. Prices keep going up and all you get is more shop at home network channels. Not worth the money anymore.

They have a constant surgery.
They know exactly how many viewers are watching channels at any time.
That was in their statement when the dropped it.
Their numbers said no it enough viewers were watching it for the price they paid.
Remember, cable companies pay for every subscriber whether they watch or not.
As a basic channel, that means every subscriber.
If you look it up, twc ratings have been falling.
Too many people using apps or other online methods for weather instead of tuning it in.

Do you bother to check your comments? Or do you just repeat what they tell you?
"If you look it up, TWC ratings have been falling." OK... Let's look it up. I Googled The Weather Channel Ratings, and the first hit was from AdWeek: "The Weather Channel Delivered Its Most-Watched Year Since 2103"
The second article was interesting. Its first paragraph: "The Weather Channel has a new owner, and experienced a solid 2017 on the ratings front, posting high-single digit growth when roughly 70 cable networks posted audience declines from 2016.
The truth is that for 2017, TWC gained 14% in viewership. These figures came frim Nielsen. Where did yours come from?
When I do a google search for AccuWeather ratings, guess what? Nothing shows up. It doesn't even get a mention.
I can't figure out why you keep defending them. Or why you keep defending VZ on this lousy decision. They feebly try to spin it. And you seem to buy in hook, line, and sinker. When in reality, it is purely a case of them saying you are going to eat this, and we don't care, because what are you going to do? At least be honest with us.
Also, please spellcheck.

Sorry for spellcheck.
Tablet auto correct caught me.
I was going off data prior to 2017 for TWC ratings.
And the fact that ratings were declining when FiOS dropped them.
Ratings bump in 2017 is being attributed to number of hurricanes.
And it was a small increase (30K average/day)
Based on 2017 data, they average 250K viewers daily.
Out of 100M cable homes, that is a very small number. Less than 1%.
All cable companies make business decisions on channels.
Until recently, Accuweather was FIOS only.
It is now also being carried by DirecTv.
Its not so much of a defense as reality.
People complain when channels go away.
People also complain when rates go up.
This is a business.
There are more and more choices available.
Verizon has to do what they need to and customers the same.

We have been considering dropping FIOS anyway. Dropping the Weather Channel gives us one more reason to drop FIOS.

Good decision Jevcat.
It's amazing how many people turn their backs on The Weather Channel when they have been providing life saving weather reporting for 30+ years. The thing that people should be upset about is their TV provider taking away choices and not reducing the cost. I don't like the golf channel so guess what, I don't watch it. But I'm sure there are millions of people that do like it.

I got a Comcast ad in the mail yesterday. Now two emails from Verizon: They are raising my rates and dropping Weather Channel.
I think it's a sign.

Received email that FiOS is not renewing The Weather Channel. They used as an excuse that people get their weather from the internet, etc., these days. I guess these decision makers have never actually *watched* The Weather Channel, or they would know that the channel has a lot of original programming that many of us enjoy. Hopre they rethink this decision and renew TWC!

Obviously, a decision made by Verizon based on their profit, with little regard to what their customers think. Both the channels they have removed deliver valuable content from a community safety standpoint too. It is decisions like this that make Verizon one the least admired brands in the country. The email they sent was interesting, acknowledging that huge numbers of people no longer use "cable" service. Removing Weather Channel is the latest in Verizon decisions that drives me closer to cutting the cord also.
