I hate AccuWeather.......how come customers did not have a choice or a vote to keep The Weather Channel???? AccuWeather stinks, there are no REAL stories nor do the show any weather people out in the field......this is the worst, I watch the weather channel everyday. I might just think about changing my service to someone who has The Weather Channel!!! I hate this.....ugh !

are you serious? I'm a outdoors man by trade, meaning i make a living working outside. I use the weather channel daily and plan my work upon the weather. If its raining in the Richmond area, i can go to the tidewater area to work and vise versa. Now this crap that verizon has on wont allow me to effectively plan my work load, causing an effect of decreased pay causing me not to be able to pay verizon over 200.00 per month for cable. I've never been a fan of direct TV, but if they still carry the weather channel i might be forced to switched. Very disappointed in verizon, they did not even send a notice that it was ending. truly verizon does not care.....

TWC has become an ESSENTIAL SERVICE! They are the only ones with the expertise and experience to prepare the public for severe weather, and then to cover it LIVE. I know my local OEM relies on TWC for major weather events. Accuweather is nothing but a poor imitation of TWC from the very early 80's. It looks like a 3rd grade science project, and the limited information is useless. Weatherscan is the best thing for monitoring LOCAL weather 24/7 as needed. Seriously considering dropping Verizon. Re: TWC shows. I don't watch/enjoy all of them, but that is true for ANY tv station. When it's important weatherwise, TWC preempts the shows to cover the weather. NO other station does that. As for getting weather on-line, etc. many people (especially senior citizens) do not have a computer!

This is completely ridiculous. As a shareholder and life-time customer this is unthinkable. I just resigned a 2 year deal with Verizon and now they pull this. Add The Weather Channel back. Restart negotiations. Pay whatever it takes. This is a critical channel to have in the lineup. I hate Comcast but I will switch to them unless we get the channel back and yes you will eat the penalties.

I feel for all the subscribers currently under contract. Verizon has been after me for months to renew my subscriptions. I'm currently going month to month. I'm looking at my options to move from another carrier. Good luck everyone. Bye to Verizon.

As retirees, cable TV is a luxury. Taking away something as vital as The Weather Channel makes it useless. I was upset last summer when they started dropping channels such as Clue without notice, but this one is ludicrous.
We can go to dish and just watch local weather if we're not getting this back. We counted on TWC to keep us up to date on storms around the country. Accuweather is a joke, the Weatherbug is full of glitches and can only be gotten on one of our sets. (All of the widgets are a joke, but this one is downright terrible.)
I want to keep my phone and internet, but I'll be switching to Comcast or Direct TV if I decide to keep cable. I checked with customer service and can keep the phone/internet bundle without an early termination fee.

I will admit that Weatherscan was useful.
Like right now:
According to TV Guide: Currently showing on TWC is Why Planes crash for at least the next couple of hours.
And if memory serves me correctly, they didn't always have weather on the 8s during this type of shows.
But I can tune over to Accuweather and get weather in no more than 15 minutes.
Accuweather channel is very new. They have stated that they will be improving the product (chicken and egg: can't spend a lot of money until you have customers but customers wnat a highly polished product from day 1).
Keep in mind that Accuweather has been in business for over 50 years. They certainly know about weather.
Lots of people are concerned about coverage during a significant weather event.
Lets wait and see how they perform on the first one and then judge vs assuming they will fail.
I certainly don't need to see someone standing out in the severe weeather to believe it is happening.
The weather should be the focus of the story not the people reporting it.

Yes ,TWC has other programs and yes, I don't like them all (same can be said for ANY channel). HOWEVER, when there is severe weather, TWC preempts ALL OTHER Programming to bring LIVE coverage. No other station does that. No other station has the expertise, experience, and personnel to cover major weather events. So those times when there is nothing really major going on weather-wise, you can tune into weatherscan for you local weather (which, by the way, I have YET to see anything more than a very large, useless regional thing on Accuweather). Why replace something useful with something resembling a 3rd grade science/computer graphics project?

Lets see, past quote, Accu-weather "MAY Just Have what we need" Key word is may, are you willing to bet your safety and that of your family on a MAYBE. I'm not!! And now you state Keep in mind Accu-weather has been in business for over 50 years. Well if this dribble that they have is the best they can do after 50 years. It' just not a confidence builder. As for the addition programming TWC has added, SO WHAT, No channel is ever going to survive on just weather. Plus add the fact that in times of extreme weather TWC does not hesitate to preempt these shows for constant live weather coverage. I guess Verizon will drop CNN then because they added Forensic Files and Anthony Bordain.

Its unreal that people count on TWC for an excuse for there familys safety I mean really? People cant take care of there family in a storm and dont have the knowledge to look other places for weather like the news, internet, other weather channels and some say Verizon doesnt care for our familys safety COME ON PEOPLE GET REAL look out for your familys safety and not rely on a tv channel to tell you to LOOK OUT THERES A STORM COMING.

I, for one, rarely used TWC as I didn't find it very useful.
I did use Weatherscan at times.
But I am one of those that have a smart phone as well as Internet access (which I think more people have than admit to being able to use in these posts).
I understand how Verizon has to make decisions (cable providers aren't run by democracy) based on finances.
They had a choice to keep TWC and ultimately raise rates as content charges continue to rise or go with a cheaper option. Either one could cause customers to leave.
And given the fact taht TWC ratings have dropped 20% over the past few years, I can understand the option to go with a cheaper option.
I also know that Accuweather has been in business for over 50 years and in the TV weather business fora number of years, they have what I want, weather.
I believe I am part of group (mainly silent) that won't miss TWC,
I do see where some are upset with the loss.
We each have content we like and can live without.

I am highly insulted by the unilateral change made by Verizon to eliminate local weather ch49 and to change the weather channel ch119 from the "Weather Channel" TO "Accu Weather"......
OK I have learned to enjoy the folks at the Weather Channel and their hands on at locations where events are happening or about to happen . . . .
THE people at Accu Weather never go any where, they stay at their main center (I believe in Boston) and remotely tell the people of this country what is the weather events. Our local radio stations once used this service over the years and currently most of them have abandonded the service.. BUT
for national weather on ch119, I can live with that.
I am offended that I know the weather conditions all over the US but I have no idea what my weather is just outside my door or with in 100 miles of where I live..... I am offended that every major city is covered but my relatively small area with less than 1m people is to insignificient to be covered by their tv service... I don't care who provides the information but bring back the local weather which for me means from Albany to Buffalo east and west AND Canada to Pennsylvania north to south... Frankly, I don't give a **bleep** what the weather is in NEW YORK city or Boston or DC or Chicago and the west coast is totally useless information.
You made an executive decision without ever asking for my input nor any other custmer . . .

Is Verizon monitoring this forum? AccuWeather is a waste and prvoides nothing useful. Verizon should bring back Channel 49 - my local weather all the time AND the regular weather channnel! What's going to happen when there is a hurricane? The station in NY, or Boston, or where it is will most likely be of no help to me during a hurricane or tornado!

I plan to termintate our Verizon service and inform as many folks as I can that Verizon changes the channel lineup to less than satisfactory channels for no apparent reason other than to increase Verizon's profitability.
They remove the Weather Channel saying most people now use an "app" for their weather. Does that mean Verizon will be removing my local news because most people get their local news through an "app" or remove the business channel because folks use an "app"?
Verizon hasn't reduced my monthly fee now that they no longer provide the Weather Channel. Verizon has also removed sports channels that were previously included in my subscription and advised me I have to upgrade my service (and cost) to continue receiving those channels.
Verizon is clearly more concerned about their earnings, share price and compensation to executives than they are to their
loyal customer base and in time Verizon will find their customer base has moved to other service providers.
We will never return to Verizon as a customer because it is now clear their loyaty is not to the customers whose patronage
allows them to exist as a business.

I have some potential good news. I was on the phone with FIOS Customer Service and she told me that Verizon is currently in negotiations with The Weather Channel. They are trying to come to a resolution to get TWC back in the lineup. Obviously, calling and telling Verizon our opinion does matter to some extent. Whether things work out or not, time will tell. I think Verizon realizes they may lose a substantial number of customers over this debacle. Hopefully TWC will be back soon!

Oh pleeeeease let this rumor is true. I am Weather Channel starved at this point. I live alone, and having TWC on in the background while I work in the house has always been a tremendous comfort to me. I had no idea how much until Verizon snatched it away without warning. I hope they're feeling the backlash hard.

I too hope that Verizon has re-started talks with TWC. But, no matter what happens, the damage is already done. Verizon has taken a big hit in it's reputation. How do you expect to keep "Loyal And Valued Customer's" when you totally disregard them at every turn. 147 pages here alone, thousand on Facebook and Twitter and not (1) count them not one response from anyone at Verizon. Just goes to show how accurate the numbers Verizon used for this decision really are.
