I hate AccuWeather.......how come customers did not have a choice or a vote to keep The Weather Channel???? AccuWeather stinks, there are no REAL stories nor do the show any weather people out in the field......this is the worst, I watch the weather channel everyday. I might just think about changing my service to someone who has The Weather Channel!!! I hate this.....ugh !

I agree this was a great channel. Why no notification of your plans to eliminate

I'm very displeased with Verizon's decision to drop the Weather Channel.   Besides their view of the country's weather conditions, they had great "on the scene" reporting of big storms and human interest storm related events.

The Weather Channel also had some great feature shows:
Alaska Coast Guard, Prospectors, etc...

One particular show I had just watched had to do with the NASA high-tech plane that was flying over Antarctica and measuring the effects of the global warming there.  The plane can measure the land mass and the amount of ice on top and thus the difference showing how much the ice is melting on top of the land mass, not just the ice cliffs that are falling into the ocean.  In Antactica, global warming and climate change are not just words that you can ignore, the effects are seen daily.

Where else can I see shows like that?  Certainly not on Fox News.  Why don't you drop Fox instead?  Thats not even real news.  The Weather Channel had real weather.  The Accu weather replacement you substituted in it's place looks like a rinky dink public access college station.

What's the matter?  Your corporate profits aren't big enough, you had to drop a weather station that had some class?

Maybe it's because they mentioned global warming and your CEO is one of those folks that lives in fantasy land and thinks that climate change is not real.

Wake up and smell the seawater FIOS.

Totally agree.  Tried calling to complain and can't get through.  Tried chatting and it's not avaiable.  Hopefully, at some point, I can properly complain about it!

clearly more people are interested in TWC than Oprah's fine network and half of the other fluff that nobody watches that i'm forced to pay for...How about going ALA CART?? Wouldn't that really drive them crazy i??...

Content providers are the one blocking a la carte.

But that is a subject for another thread.

Verizon misses important aspects of The Weather Channel.  It is not just a bland utilitarian weather information channel.  In addition to weather information TWC is educational and entertaining.  It is mental "comfort food".  We have become familiar with the personalities of the meteorologists on TWC.  I am a frequent viewer of TWC documentary programs.

UPDATE

I just got off the phone with Verizon. Put everything and I mean everything down to bare minimum in prep for total cancellation. As soon as new services are in place Bye Bye Verizon. People lets wake up, are we going to continue letting these corporate {word filter avoidance} dictate what we watch or don't watch. Put us in the middle when it comes to contracts. I say no more, contact your local Congressmen and demand they change the laws. 1) An independent binding arbitrator to settle contract disputes 2) Create a new category of programming called Community Resource Channels Which would have a must carry designation and be off limits to cancellation. And The Weather Channel should be the first one designated. They save lives on a daily basis, their Weather Reporting is second to none. And like their slogan says "When Bad Weather Strikes Where Are You Going To Turn For Life Saving Information"

I love how they (Verizon) attempt to put the Jedi mind trick on you, by stating that "more and more people these days are turning to various devices, such as smart phones, tablets and laptops for their weather related needs," as if by them making that generic statement, all of the 400+ million customers are going to suddenly be perfectly accepting of their profit margin fueled decision to 86 the weather channel!!!
As with millions of other Verizon subscribers, this not only inconveniences us, but it also puts our lives in jeopardy! Sure it sucks that I can no longer watch Jim Cantorie, Sam Champion and the rest of the hard working meteorologists on TWC in the mornings and that we're now stuck watching the same old depressing local news. What really {word filter avoidance} is that come April, May & June when tornado season hits here in Texas and we really need the life saving radar information that TWC provides, that you can't get on any other channel because it's 3am, we're going to be left stuck with "accuweather"! Accuweather, in the 3 or 4 days since having this crap involuntarily crammed down our throats, w literally have yet to see any weather information pertinent to our area!

WAY TO GO VERIZON... WAY TO GO! You guys just sit back, relax and enjoy your immensely padded profit margins, while the rest of us figure out how we're going to stay safe through the upcoming seasons of uncertainty!!! And don't worry, we already know you aren't planning to take any action on this matter, BECAUSE YOU DON'T CARE!

It has been reported that TWC ratings are down 20%. Certainly means that less and less people are watching.

Verizon's specious argument regarding removal of the weather channel is a slap in the face when we are constantly bombarded with their VALUED CUSTOMER tag line.  Supposedly The Weather Channel was removed because of choices.   I did have a choice 4 days ago.    Local 24/7 weather for Harrisburg, PA  channel 49 OR  The Weather Channel.

The choices have been deleted.   Channel 49 was removed and the Weather Channel is deleted so the options/choices are removed.  If the VALUED CUSTOMERS want 24/7 weather  we are forced to view AcuWeather on the previous Weather Channel slot.   My Verizon contract is about to expire.  I will be changing providers and hope that thousands of other customers do too unless The Weather Channel is returned to OUR CHOICES !!!

We agree with your comments and we will be cancelling Verizon as soon as our contract ends.  Verizon is showing that they do not care about us with forcing us to accept the very cheap and inferior Accu Weather.  We have no value in Verizon's eyes, as Accu weather has no value to us.

If We could CANCEL VERIZON Today, we WOULD!!!  The Weather Channel is one of our favorite channels, as we really rely on it to alert us to bad weather, to give us constant updates on local and regional weather and it is also good if you are planning to travel.  We enjoyed local on the 8's, and the 7 day planner for the nation.

ACCU WEATHER STINKS and is a VERY CHEAP Slap in the Face to Verizon Customers.  Verizon, you are sneaky and underhanded.  We would have not gotten into a contract with you without you having the Weather Channel, and we will cancel asap; having no trust in you.  You also have slowed down our internet; it was faster with our previous provider with the same speeds.

You have also added the hate mongering stations of Newsmax and America One, of course it is  lined up next To Fox News, which is appropriate, since it is full of the same hate, lies and the Master of Propoganda.   You say you are going in a different direction, and we will not continue to pay for you to go in that direction.  We see that you have dropped TV Land and other channels for the Hispanic Network.  Are we and all the other customers next???

I did not know Newsmax was added--even more reason to cnacel my Verizon subscription in addition to this travesty of TWC.

BRING BACK THE WEATHER CHANNEL!!!!!!!!!!  AccuWeather is not the same as the Weather Channel.  AccuWeather is worse than looking out the window to see the weather.  My kids talk about a weather rock: a rock that hangs from a string.  If the rock is wet- it is raining; if the rock is dry - it is sunny; if the rock is hot - it is warm out; etc.  I prefer the weather rock to AccuWeather because it is more reliable and useful.  What are they going to take away next?  CNN? we get a lot of bogus channels that nobody watches, and the one channel we all love and rely on is now gone.  BRING BACK THE WEATHER CHANNEL!!!!!!!

Bring back the WEATHER CHANNEL and the local WEATHERSCAN.  The lame substitutes Accuweather and the weatherbug widget STINK!  Why must quality programming be dropped - the WEATHER CHANNEL offers superior feature stories and forecasts.  WEATHERSCAN offered much better local coverage 24/7/365.  Reverse these ill-conceived changes ASAP!!!

Frankly, I would rather keep TWC and get rid of MSNBC. There is definitely crossover but the personalities are MUCH different.

Please do NOT bring back TWC. The inane shows (Bible Weather, Highway through Hell, etc) and the never ending effort to incite fear and paranoia with their named storms.

Good Riddance.

Public safety hazard? Aside from ramping up fear from naming every gusty storm, reality TV and fluff content, the weather channel has been a sellout for a long time and become irrelevant. Online content has become more reliable and accessible. Weather Channel tried this with Direct TV last year, raising their rates to unsusbstantiated levels and ended up dropping their rate substantially in the end. Either way, this is good for the Verizon customer. Public safety hazard post sounds like a WC employee or shill for the network. Bring on the online TV Verizon, and use the Oncue technology you bought last year. I want more choice and a cheaper verizon bill at the same time. Call me crazy?!

The accuweather channel is less local than the weather channel. The weather bug widget was terrible from day one. I have never been so unhappy with Verizon. Never had a problem previously. Paying for tv stations and tv stations keep getting removed. There removing something that is a well known network and it also has other tv shows. Bring back the weather channel and weather scan.

hi all....

also not happy that fios decided to drop the weather channel without any warning. we need to start a Petition to get the weather channel back. FIOS is Great but this wasnt a great move on their behalf to do this to us.

after youve been watching the weather channel for over 20 years whether on cable or fios and then someone pulls the plug on it, not a good Move at all.

also keep in mind fios Exec's...the customer is always right !
