I hate AccuWeather.......how come customers did not have a choice or a vote to keep The Weather Channel???? AccuWeather stinks, there are no REAL stories nor do the show any weather people out in the field......this is the worst, I watch the weather channel everyday. I might just think about changing my service to someone who has The Weather Channel!!! I hate this.....ugh !

The Weather channel is not coming back. Go back to your previous provider. This is the only wasy to send Verizon a message.

@KabookiMom wrote:When it is clear that customers want the Weather Channel back, it falls on deaf ears.
Why is it clear customers want TWC back? Certainly there are some customers who want it back, but there are some customers who don't even know it's gone nor do they care about it. Remember that the unhappy customers are the ones who make the most noise. That doesn't mean that most customers are unhappy. We aren't hearing a peep from customers who didn't use TWC and haven't noticed it's gone.
While I don't have any data that can answer the question of how many FiOS customers miss TWC, I can say that the number of posts on this forums looks rather small to me compared with the millions of customers Verizon has. There aren't even a couple thousand posts here. That's like a tenth of a percent of Verizon's subscriber base.
I also suspect that Verizon knew just how many customers actually tuned their set-top-boxes to TWC and had some sense of how many customers they might annoy. Verizon is very good at understanding markets and I doubt they would have taken this move if they thought it would have cost them a significant number of subscribers.
Remember, Verizon is very much a business and makes decisions based on money. If you are upset about the loss of TWC, the best message you can send Verizon is to cancel service and tell them why. Anything else likely won't matter to them.
Good Luck.

I wish I could give gs0b more than one kudo for his post.
While their have been a relatively large number of posters here on the forum complaining that TWC is gone, millions of subscribers never watched TWC and don't even know it's gone! Happy users generally don't come to forums to complain how happy they are.
Let me chime in that I never watched TWC on TV. I do use the TWC website and their iPhone app for weather info, but I'm hoping something better will come along.
For those that feel that losing TWC on Verizon merits moving to another provider, all I can say is competition is good. I hope your'e happy with your new service.
In the meant time, thanks gs0b. You said it all.

So TWC has been gone for over 2 months.
I am doubtful that Verizon will bring it back as neither they nor TWC have stated anything about negotiations in progress.
So we will have to live with Accuweather, Weathernation (if you happen to have a local channel that carries it as a sub channel like I do in VHO4) or find a better weahter source on Internet via PC and/or smartphone or tablet.

Here is something Verizon might be interested in. And without FIOS Customers no less.

Most of the quarter was with FIOS customers.
And the ratings say they are averaging 240K people a day.
And that is out of the entire country.
Given that FIOS only has 5M subscribers (out of 100M households or so) their numbers cant be very high.
If Verizon has 5% of households, then lets say they have 5% of TWC viewers.
That would be 12K out of 5M.
Not a very large number.

Bad form on cancelling TWC. Gave Accuweather a chance, but just not able to match the coverage. Extremely bad move to remove any/all live local radar as well (ch 49). I use the internet and it can give more analytical info, as I have pro Accuweather access for radar if I need, I am also a HAM operator (N5LXB) and have storm chasing monitoring. But. TWC is a mainstay for content, live coverage and overall weather geek need. AW channel, has not the abilty to do this. The storms here in Tx have been really critical, guess where exec's live just dont get the need. Really dissapointed in this move, but it is not uncommon in the industry.

You're a HAM operator? Awesome! Say, if you ever hear KF5YSH next time you're at your radio, that's my brother. By the way, I'm in the same boat as you here in upstate New York -- No Weather Channel, got a ton of apps on my tablet I can turn to, but it's still not quite the same. As for HAM? I'm working up to get my tech license, so maybe someday we'll talk on HAM radio.
I have a bad feeling that somewhere in the USA, someone's gonna get killed (God forbid) by the weather & not having The Weather Channel, before Verizon finally decides to bring it back... I really hope they wise up soon, FiOS cosmic control is really endangering a lot of people's lives who don't have smartphones or the Internet...

I think that's a bit far fetched. There are people who don't have cable at all. How do you think they get weather information? There are smart phones, radios, weather radios, streaming devices with TONS of weather apps etc.. Just because Verizon doesn't have TWC doesn't mean one can't easily get information elsewhere. If one has to rely soley on TWC for information they need to re-think things. This day and age there's no excuse to not get information from other sources. What if the power went out? You wouldn't have the TWC then either.

I am a ham radio operator, too. K5KF. Have been for some 50 years.
But back on topic, I need to be able to see the weather radar on my TV as it was on channel 49. Their widget is horrible. Slow to activate and doesn't have a live radar; only snapshots. I cannot believe that Verizon thinks that their widget is an equal replacement to what we've been paying for and they provided since inception.

Channel 49 was tied in to TWC data.
What it had been replaced with is a link to the weather widget.
Channel 49 has been removed but you can still access the weather widget via the widget button on your remote.

When it works. For me the widget doesn't work half the time. It will say no data avaiable or no information available. Totally unreliable. A very poor substitute for channel 49.

Hurricane Joaquin is heading toward NJ and accuweather does not provide adequate coverage. It is time to bring back the Weather Channel. After over 100 pages of posts, I would expect Verizon to take note of their customers and bring it back. I am extremely disappointed by your inability to support your customers and will be switching to a competitor at the end of the year who does carry TWC. Verizon, you cannot offer a "Customized TV Plan" when your customers cannot get the channels they want and need to watch. The Weather Channel provides critical information for our safety and to be the only providee who does not carry it is ridiculous. You are supposed to be the top provider in the nation. Accuweather really does suck. #bringbacktwc

Completely agree!!! AccuWeather has horrible coverage. Living in a Hurricane zone with the latest storm about to hit, other than the half hour of local news, I have zero coverage of a storm coming right through coastal Virginia. I would gladly pay a monthly add on fee to have the Weather Channel's excellent coverage. I miss Jim Cantori and the other wonderful meteorologists who really took the time to bring us excellent live coverage, stories and weather education. I even watched some of the other shows which were very interesting. It was the only channel I watched EVERY DAY. When my contract runs out, I will be switching to Cox or another provider which has my weather channel. Verizon you really dropped the ball on this one and gave your loyal customers of over ten years, like me, no option at all. It's a true shame that you disrespect us so much.

what's wrong with the coverage that the news depts of your local channels provides? surely much timelier than weather channel's coverage.

In many (most?) areas locals channels are fine. In some areas the locals do not have enough resources to cover critical weather news.

What a pain. All I wanted to do is make a suggestion and I spent over an hour and escalated to a supervisor when all I wanted was an email addresss. Do they have such a thing? All I wanted to say was to get rid of accuweather ad give us back The Weather Channel. I suppose that the Verizon people don't even read this on this forum? Thanks

Verizon does not have an email for complaints. And this is mainly a peer to peer support forum. Only way to really express your opinion is to vote with yourwwallet. Vwerizon has made their position known. Plus there is already a long thread on twc. People have differing opinions. Some don't miss it and others say they will leave without it.
